Barbara Wadleigh
Barbara C. Wadleigh, 93, of Newtown, passed away in her home peacefully, surrounded by family, on Friday, January 18, 2019. Barbara was born October 28, 1925, in New Rochelle, N.Y. She was the daughter of the late William K. Conover and Madge Watson.
Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Edward C. Wadleigh, and her son, William M. Wadleigh.
She is survived by her four daughters, Marion Wilkes of Southington, Susan Smith of Waterbury, Deborah Lyall of Naugatuck, and Patricia Roka of Waterbury; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Barbara was a Girl Scout leader for many years in Newtown, was the owner of the Put-n-Take consignment shop in Sandy Hook, and later worked as a certified nursing assistant at the skilled nursing facility, River Glen Health Care Center in Southbury.
Barbara is a longtime resident of Newtown. She has resided at Nunnawauk Meadows in Newtown since 2001 and was the president of the residents association and founded the community garden and gazebo. Barbara has also been an active member of Alanon and PFLAG.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 24. Calling hours will be from 1 to 2 pm, and a memorial service will be held at 2 pm at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting contributions in Barbara’s memory be made to Nunnawauk Meadows’ Residents’ Association in Newtown for beautification or to Stepping Stones, 62 Oak Road, Katonah NY 10536.
