Approximately 145 Eversource customers lost power for a few hours on Monday, January 18, when an aging tree fell onto utility wires and then across Berkshire Road shortly after 1 pm. Sandy Hook Fire & Rescue was dispatched to the scene following calls from motorists reporting the eastbound lane of Berkshire/Route 34 was blocked. Upon arrival, firefighters deemed the roadway fully closed to through traffic. No vehicles were caught under the tree, however, and no injuries were reported. Westbound traffic was diverted over Zoar Road, while eastbound traffic was sent down Sherman Street to get around the scene. Eversource arrived quickly, and crews were able to work on repairing equipment while firefighters began working on clearing the debris from the roadway. Alternating lanes of traffic were eventually allowed past the work zone while Eversource crews continued their work. The roadway was fully reopened by 4 pm.
