Sugar Street

Police report that at about 11:15 am on January 7, they stopped motorist Dominic Florio, 46, of North Haven on Sugar Street to investigate.

Police charged Florio with driving a vehicle with a suspended registration. Florio was released on $500 bail for a January 21 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Walgreens Site

A case of dumping occurred at the construction site for a new Walgreens Pharmacy on the northern corner of South Main Street and Mile Hill Road, police report.

Police said that sometime between 5:30 pm on January 10, and 6:30 am on January 11, someone who likely was driving a large truck, illegally dumped a load of debris at the Walgreens site where the gate was open.

The dumped debris included some Tuttle-brand brick, concrete blocks, plumbing fixtures, and soil.

Police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact investigating Officer Dana Schubert at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Slippery Road

At about 1 pm on January 12, driver William Keeler, 40, of 9 Quarry Ridge Road, who was driving a 2008 Ford pickup truck with a snowplow, was stationary near 19 Toddy Hill Road, police said.

At that time, Lee Coakley III, 43, of Monroe was driving a 2002 GMC pickup truck northward on Toddy Hill Road, police said.

The GMC attempted to stop on the snow-covered road, but slid and collided with the Ford, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Keeler a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

South Main Accident

Police report a two-vehicle accident on South Main Street, near its southern intersection with Peck’s Lane, about 2 pm January 7 during snowy conditions.

In that accident, motorist Palacios Fausto, 43, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 1994 Nissan southward on South Main Street, slid on the snow-covered road and then struck some guardcabling along the right road shoulder, police said.

Southbound motorist Michael Parrilla, 21, of 9 Willow Brook Lane, who was driving a 2000 Chevrolet southward behind the Nissan, then slid on the snowy road and collided with the Nissan, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned both drivers for traveling unreasonably fast.

Ambulance Garage

Police said that Carl Samuelson, 39, of Woodbury was driving a town-owned 2011 Ford F-550 truck with a snowplow attached to it while clearing away accumulated snow at the parking lot at the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps garage at 77 Main Street at about 9 am on January 12.

While backing up, the Ford slid and struck a parked 2000 Plymouth minivan.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Fire Hydrant

While using a backhoe to remove accumulated snow from the area, Scott Kimball, 40, of Southbury, who was working as a contractor for the town, struck a fire hydrant that was buried beneath the snow near 33 West Street at about 11:20 am January 13, police said.

The fire hydrant then sprung a leak, after which United Water was called to shut off the hydrant, police said.

The affected road section was temporarily closed to traffic. A sand/salt mixture was spread in the area. Firefighters were notified of the disabled hydrant, which would need to be repaired.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

 

Plowing Mishap

About 12:15 pm on January 12, Peter Daccolti, 62, of Southbury, who was driving a town-owned 2003 Ford small dump truck with a snowplow attached, was traveling eastward near 14 Crestwood Drive, when due to snowy road conditions, the vehicle slid off the road shoulder and landed on its side in a ditch, police said.

Police said Daccolti was transported to Danbury Hospital to checked for minor injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Toddy Hill Road

At about 3:30 pm on January 10, motorist Falvia Dos Santos Marinho, 34, of Monroe, who was driving a 2004 Ford pickup truck, was traveling northward near 113 Toddy Hill Road, police said.

Marinho then lost control of the Ford and struck three curbside residential mailboxes and a utility pole, police said. Marinho refused medical attention at the scene, police said.

Police said Marinho received an infraction for driving without a valid license, driving an unregistered vehicle, and making a restricted turn.

Sandy Hook Accident

A two-vehicle accident occurred on Riverside Road, near Cherry Street, about 7:47 pm January 7.

Motorist Matthew Taverna, 27, of New Fairfield was driving a 2000 Honda sedan eastward, as motorist Peter Krete, 44, of 30 Jo-Mar Drive was driving a 2004 Volkswagen station wagon westward, police said.

The Honda went out of control on the snow-covered road and then entered the opposite lane, resulting in an accident, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Taverna for failure to drive to the right.

Honda Vs Toyota

About 8:26 am on January 10, motorist Ivanette Pelletier, 44, of Danbury, who was driving a 2002 Honda sedan eastward on Wasserman Way near Exit 11 of I-84, struck the rear end of an eastbound 1998 Toyota sedan driven by Jessica Joram, 24, of Seymour, police report.

There were no injuries. Police report they issued Pelletier a written warning for following too closely.

Sandy Hook Incident

While in traffic on Toddy Hill Road, near Turnberry Lane, about 7:47 am on January 10, northbound motorist Kristen Mezick, 24, of Monroe, who was driving a 2000 Mazda sedan, struck the rear end of a northbound 1997 Toyota pickup truck driven by Jonathan Milo, 43, of Bridgeport, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Mezick for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Church Hill Impact

About 5:16 pm on January 10, motorist Inhwa Hyeon, 50, of 31 Mountain Manor Road, who was driving a motor vehicle, was exiting the parking lot at 61 Church Hill Road and attempting to turn left onto eastbound Church Hill Road, police said.

At that time, motorist Thomas Brink, 50, of Monroe was driving a 1992 Buick sedan westward on Church Hill Road, police said.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Hyeon a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Honda Vs Jeep

About 5:53 pm on January 10, motorist Ellen Gallo, 49, of Ridgefield, who was driving a 2008 Jeep SUV westward on Church Hill Road, started making a right turn into the driveway at 17 Church Hill Road, after which the Jeep was struck from behind by a westbound 2006 Honda minivan driven by Lisa Bruno, 51, of 34 Flat Swamp Road, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Bruno a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Dodgingtown Road

About 11:18 am on December 17, motorist Mark Sullivan, 49, of New Milford, who was driving a 2001 Volkswagen station wagon eastward on Dodgingtown Road, stopped for a red traffic signal at that street’s intersection with Jacklin Road, police said.

Motorist Max Biga III, 40, of Seymour, who was driving a 2000 Dodge van eastward, then struck the rear end of the Volkswagen, police said.

Sullivan was transported to Danbury Hospital by ambulance volunteers to be treated for injuries, police said. Biga was treated at the scene, according to police.

Biga received an infraction for following too closely, police said.

Hopewell Road

Police report a two-vehicle accident on Hopewell Road about 5:30 pm January 10.

In that incident, motorist Melania Fitzgerald, 20, of 17 Equestrian Ridge Road was driving a 2011 BMW coupe eastward, as motorist Stacey Saraceni, 45, of 11 Saw Mill Road was driving a 2006 Hyundai sedan westward, police said.

In the accident, the left, exterior rear-view mirrors of each vehicle made contact with each another, police said. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Bad Check

Police report that they arrested Keith Chemlen, 32, of Hamden on a warrant on January 14 at Danbury Superior Court, charging Chemlen with issuing a bad check and with fifth-degree larceny.

Police said the charges stem from an incident last June 18 in which Chemlen passed a bad check for $954 at a local antiques shop.

Chemlen was arraigned on the charges on January 14. He is being held at Osborn Correctional Institution in Somers for an upcoming court appearance in the case. Chemlen is serving a 39-month sentence there on a third-degree larceny conviction.

Credit Cards

At about noon on January 8, four credit cards were found lying on the road near the intersection of Tunnel Road and Blackman Road, police said. The owner of the credit cards should contact Officer John McCluskey at the police station at 203-426-5841 to claim the credit cards.

Theft From Vehicle

Sometime between 3:30 and 5 pm on January 15, someone stole items from within a motor vehicle that was parked in a parking lot at Reed Intermediate School at 3 Trades Lane. Police ask anyone with information about the incident to contact investigating Officer John McDermott at 203-426-5841.

Subaru Vs Honda

At about 7 pm on January 14, motorist Heather Skerrett, 34, of Southbury, who was driving a 2006 Subaru station wagon northward on Sherman Street, stopped at a stop sign at its intersection with Berkshire Road, police said.

At that time, motorist Erica Quarz, 18, of Cheshire was driving a 1999 Honda sedan eastward on Berkshire Road, police said.

The Subaru then pulled onto Berkshire Road and collided with the Honda, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Skerrett an infraction for a stop sign violation.

Currituck Road

About 1:22 pm on January 12 following a major snowstorm, Louis Holzner, 79, of 30 Currituck Road was using a 2006 John Deere tractor to plow snow from his driveway, police said.

At that time, motorist Kevin Cragin, 56, of 22 Georges Hill Road was driving a 2003 Toyota station wagon southward on Currituck Road, police said.

The tractor then entered the roadway and the snowplow blade collided with the Toyota, police said. There were no injuries. Holzner received a written warning for failure to grant the right of way, police said.

Snowstorm Crash

Police report a two-vehicle accident during a snowstorm, while there was deep snow on the road at about 6:30 pm on January 7.

Motorist Kenneth Denyko, 47, of Bethel was driving a 1992 Ford pickup truck southward on West Street, as motorist Marco Sanchez, 40, of Danbury was driving a 1995 Nissan sedan eastward on Sugar Street, police said.

The Ford then attempted to make a right turn onto westbound Sugar Street, but collided with the Nissan, police said. There were no injuries. The accident is under investigation, police said.

Church Hill

About 9:45 pm January 14, motorist Alexander Kron, 19, of 4 Clapboard Ridge Road, who was driving a 2005 Lexus station wagon, was exiting the driveway at 66 Church Hill Road, as motorist Mary Calvandro, 52, of Southbury was driving a 2003 Saab station eastward on Church Hill Road, police report.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Kron for failure to grant the right of way.

Pole Bridge Crash

Motorist Daniel Cobbs, 18, of Norwalk was driving a 1999 Acura sedan northward on Pole Bridge Road about 2:45 pm on January 13, when he maneuvered to the left to avoid some pedestrians on the roadway, police said.

But in making that maneuver, the Acura collided with a southbound 2002 Ford station wagon driven by Patrick Tirella, 44, of Ansonia, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Cobbs for failure to drive to the right.

I-84 DUI

State police report that motorist Mark Wasik, 50, of Williamstown, Vt., who was driving a vehicle westward on Interstate 84 near Exit 11 about 7 pm on January 14, lost control of the vehicle and then got stuck in a snowbank along the left road shoulder.

After investigating, state police charged Wasik with driving under the influence and with failure to drive in the proper lane.

State police released him on $500 bail for a January 24 court appearance.

Jeep Rollover

State police said that motorist Eric Riddle, 20, of 21 Lyrical Lane was driving a 2000 Jeep Wrangler SUV on Interstate 84, near Exit 10, about 10 pm January 12, when while traveling in the left lane of two lanes, the vehicle drifted to the left and went onto the median and then overturned.

State police said that neither Riddle, nor Jeep passenger Kimberly Chaves, 18, of 54 Maltbie Road, were injured. Both people declined medical attention, state police said.

State police issued Riddle an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.
