Richard B. Brady

Quick Wit Will Be

Always Remembered

Richard B. Brady, 81, of Newtown, died peacefully, surrounded by his family January 14, at Masonicare at Newtown. He was born in Port Chester, N.Y., January 28, 1929, son of Catherine Stafford Brady and Matthew Brady.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Jean Johnston Brady; son Richard Brady, and wife Amy, of Newtown; two daughters, Deborah Carlson, and husband William, of Derby, and Diane Carvalho, and husband Antone, of Plano, Texas; and five grandchildren.

He served from 1948 to 1950 in the US Army, attaining the rank of corporal. Throughout his life he was very interested and knowledgeable in various aspects of military history.

Mr Brady worked his entire career in the Powdered Metal Manufacturing business. He was an estimator with various firms, including RB&W, Dixon Sintaloy, and Engineered Sintering & Plastics.

He was an avid golfer and member of the Newtown Country Club for many years, winning several local tournaments. Even after his playing days were over, he enjoyed keeping up with the current professional golf action. Besides golf, he enjoyed other hobbies such as photography and building and flying model airplanes. He would fly his planes at Sherwood Island year after year.

He was passionate about playing the bagpipes and was a member of a bagpipe band throughout the 1960s and 1970s, and could be seen often practicing the pipes, followed by an admiring line of children.

Most recently he made the jump into the Internet age, having fun e-mailing his grandchildren.

He had a tremendous love for all animals, but especially the family dogs, cats, and horses. He enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels, frequent visitors to the always-filled feeders in the backyard.

He and his family moved to Newtown in 1977. Among their favorite times was a trip he and Jean took to Great Britain in 1987. For Mr Brady, visiting Ireland was the highlight of the trip. Immediately before his recent illness, he and his wife, and his son and family spent more than a week in Florida. Beyond enjoying the ocean views, the Air Force Armament Museum at Eglin AFB, and October temperatures, this was a special time for the family and will be the source of many fond memories in the future.

He will always be remembered for his terrific memory, quick wit, and a great sense of humor.

Funeral services were held in the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, January 19. Interment was in Resurrection Cemetery. A Memorial Service will take place at Stepney Baptist Church, Monroe, Saturday, January 22, at 11 am.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Stepney Baptist Church Food Pantry, 423 Main Street, Monroe CT 06468.
