Gardening With The Birds

BROOKFIELD — Are you wistfully thinking about your garden and warmer weather?

Gardener and writer Colleen Plimpton may have an answer. Ms Plimpton will offer an interactive presentation on “Gardening with the Birds” on Saturday, January 22, at 1 pm, at Wild Birds Unlimited.

Gardeners treasure the natural world around them, which of course includes birds. Ms Plimpton will discuss how to grow the easiest, most productive plant material to encourage our avian friends to visit, linger and raise their families in our gardens. The discussion will include annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees and vines.

Garden communicator Colleen Plimpton trained at the New York Botanical Gardens and has tended her sloping Connecticut acre for 18 years. She has appeared on numerous TV and radio programs including “Good Morning America” and programs on WTNH and PBS, in addition to penning a weekly gardening column for The News-Times. Ms Plimpton also teaches at the New York Botanical Garden, lectures widely and writes for publications such as GreenPrints, The Litchfield Review, People, Places & Plants, Connecticut Gardener and Toastmaster. Her garden memoir, Mentors in the Garden of Life was issued by Park East Press in May 2010.

Wild Birds Unlimited is at 317 Federal Road. Ms Plimpton’s program is free, but registration is requested; call 203-775-4888 or send email to wbu.danbury@gmail.com.
