PAFA OFFERS FEB. 27 LECTURE
AVV 1-18 #726164
PHILADELPHIA, PENN. â The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Artsâ Art-at-Lunch talk on American art and culture on Wednesday, February 27, from noon to 1 pm, will focus on âThe Protection Papers: Border, Boundaries and Blockades in Contemporary Art.â
Explore some of the minimally documented conceptual art practices of the 1960s and 1970s with Aaron Levy, executive director and senior curator at the Slought Foundation, constructed through contemporary modeling techniques.
Levy will discuss the way borders and boundaries function in the work of Dennis Oppenheim, Vito Acconci and others, arguing that they act more as zones of fear and distrust than actual physical blockades. Levy will also discuss the way that art functioned as an edge condition in those decades, a liminal zone on the periphery of institutionalism marked by acts of institutional complicity.
The academy is at 118-128 North Broad Street. For information, 215-972-7600 or www.pafa.edu.
