Woman Assaulted In Early Morning Burglary

Town police and state police are investigating an early morning burglary in an isolated area in which an unidentified middle-aged woman was seriously injured in an assault by a male assailant.
Police said the incident occurred during the early morning hours of Saturday January 15, at an unspecified residence on Georges Hill Road, a rural road that extends from Butterfield Road, near the Brookfield town line.
Shortly before 3 am, police received two emergency 911 calls from the residence, but no one spoke during those calls, said Newtown police Detective Sergeant Robert Tvardzik.
When such calls are received at the police station, their point of origin is displayed on a computer monitor. As a matter of course, police respond to the location from which such calls are placed to check for emergencies.
The male assailant had left the residence in a vehicle just before police arrived, Det Sgt Tvardzik said. Police did not provide an identity or age of the male.
During the course of the incident, the male assaulted the woman, fracturing bones in her face and causing cuts and abrasions to her body, Det Sgt Tvardzik said.
The woman fought back and was able to place the 911 calls to police, he said, triggering the automatic police response to the residence.
The woman told police that the male had entered her home during the early morning hours, after which the assault occurred, Det Sgt Tvardzik said. The woman was alone at the time.
âThis was not a random home entry,â he said, adding that police have a suspect in mind.
âWeâre focusing on a suspect,â he said. Police are looking into a possible motive for the incident, he said. âWeâre preparing search-and-seizure warrants,â he said.
The detective sergeant declined to provide details about whether the assailant and the victim knew each another.
The injured woman was transported to Danbury Hospital where she was treated for her various injuries and then released, Det Sgt Tvardzik said.
Following the incident, town police and state police worked through the day collecting physical evidence at the scene and also conducted interviews, he said.
The investigation is continuing, he said.
