Motorist Terrance Haase, 51, of Danbury was driving a 1994 Ford Econoline van westward on Sugar Street during icy conditions about 6 pm January 11, when he lost control of the vehicle and went off the westbound shoulder, striking a fence located at 46 West Street. Haase was not injured. Police took no enforcement.
Saab Vs Suzuki
Motorist Julie Stan, 36, of 7 Johnny Appleseed Drive was driving a 2001 Suzuki Grand Vitara eastward on a slippery Church Hill Road about 5:20 pm January 11, when the vehicle went out of control on a patch of ice, police said.
Eastbound motorist Susan Ballish, 40, of 7 Narragansett Trail, who was driving a 2001 Saab 9-3 sedan behind the Suzuki, also lost control on the ice and struck the rear end of the Suzuki, police said. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.
Church Hill Crash
Motorist Patricia Cahill, 40, of 29 Round Hill Road, who was driving a 1994 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck westward in icy conditions on Church Hill Road about 6:10 pm January 11, pulled over to the side of the road to allow faster traffic to pass her, police said.
Westbound motorist Christopher McKay, 31, of Southbury, who was driving a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse, then struck the rear end of the Chevrolet, police said.
Cahill reported pain, but was not transported to the hospital, police said. Police took no enforcement.
Super Stop & Shop
Newtown police report that Monroe police stopped two men in Monroe after those men were allegedly involved in the January 13 afternoon theft of $587 of goods from the Super Stop & Shop supermarket at Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street.
Police charged Patrick Page, 31, of East Haven with fourth degree larceny, and charged Gregory Gagliardi, 34, of West Haven with conspiracy to commit fourth degree larceny.
The men allegedly stole items from the supermarket including an expensive nicotine gum used to help people stop smoking, police said.
Police said they released Page on a promise to appear in court January 27 to answer the theft charge. Police then turned over Page to Hamden police who had an arrest warrant for him.
Police held Gagliardi on $1,000 bail for a January 14 court appearance.
DUI Charge
Police report that motorist Lenka Hladky, 47, of Monroe was involved in a one-car accident about 9:30 pm January 13, when the vehicle that Hladky was driving went off the road and into some bushes near the intersection of Hundred Acres Road and Aunt Park Lane.
Police said Hladky failed field sobriety testing, resulting in charges of driving under the influence and making an improper turn.
After processing, police released Hladky on $100 bail for a January 27 court appearance.
Sandy Hook Collision
Motorist Loretta Nicoll of 34 Alpine Circle, who was driving a 1999 Ford Explorer about 5:37 pm January 11, was making a right turn on a red traffic signal from Toddy Hill Road onto eastbound Route 34, when the Ford began to slide on the snowy road, police report.
The Ford then slid into Route 34âs westbound lane and collided head-on with a westbound 1998 Hyundai Elantra sedan driven by Ruben Humire, 48 of Danbury, police said.
The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps went to the accident. The ambulance corps transported Humire to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, but Nicoll refused transport to the hospital, police said. Nicoll received an infraction ticket for making an improper turn, according to police.
Jeep Rollover
Motorist Colleen Hall, 39, of 20 Brookbridge Drive was driving a 2000 Jeep Cherokee northward on Glen Road in dense fog about 1:25 am January 14, when the auto went out of control and struck an embankment along the northbound road shoulder, causing it to roll over, police said.
The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Hall to Danbury Hospital for treatment of a hand injury, police said. The accident is under investigation.
Warrant
After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Desiree Miranda, 26, of 15 Old Farm Hill Road turned herself over to police on the night of January 13, and was charged with failure to respond to a violation, traveling too fast, driving an unregistered vehicle, and driving without a license. The charges stem from an incident that occurred late last year. Police released Miranda on $200 bail for a January 27 court appearance.
Poverty Hollow Crash
Motorist George Fallon, 40, of Stratford was driving a 1993 Ford westward on Poverty Hollow Road, near Equestrian Ridge Road, about 4 pm January 11, when Fallon lost control of the vehicle on the snowy road, crossed the road and then struck an embankment, police said.
Raquel Figueroa-Heath, 50, of 91 Poverty Hollow Road, who was a passenger in the Ford, was injured in the accident and was transported by ambulance to Danbury Hospital for treatment, police said. Dodgingtown firefighters went to the accident. Police took no enforcement.
Flagpole Accident
Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Church Hill Road and Main Street, near the Main Street flagpole, about 9:25 am January 11.
Motorist Arthur Johnston, Jr, 60, of Southbury, who was driving a 1996 Dodge Intrepid, was stopped at a stop sign, after which he moved forward, but then stopped, police said.
A 2000 Saturn SL-2 sedan driven by Jessica Chromczak, 27, of Southbury then struck the rear end of the Dodge, police said. Police verbally warned Chromczak for following too closely.
Warrant
Police said they charged Astley Lee, 55, of Bridgeport on an arrest warrant on January 14, lodging one count of failure to maintain automotive insurance in connection with a past incident. Police released Lee on a promise to appear January 28 in Danbury Superior Court.

DUI Arrest
Police said they observed motorist Nicholas Pagliaro, 45, of Stratford, drinking a beer while driving on the afternoon on January 14, and later spotted him parked on Washbrook Road and drinking a beer.
Police said they stopped to investigate and gave Pagliaro field sobriety tests, which he failed. Police said they charged Pagliaro with driving under the influence.
After posting $10,000 bail, police released Pagliaro for a January 28 court appearance.
Honda Totaled
Motorist Lorraine Hans, 52, of Fairfield was driving a 2001 Honda Accord coupe westward on an icy Mt Pleasant Road about 11:30 pm January 14, when the auto slid on ice and struck a utility pole near 33 Mt Pleasant Road, police said.
The vehicle was totally destroyed in the crash, but Hans received only minor injuries, police said. The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported her to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Police took no enforcement.

Jeep Vs Pole
Motorist Susan Guardino, 39, of 74 Underhill Road was driving a 1993 Jeep Cherokee westward on an icy Riverside Road about 8:30 am January 11, when while negotiating a curve, the vehicle slid and then went off the right road shoulder, striking a utility pole near 87 Riverside Road, police said. Guardino was not injured. Police gave her a written warning for making a restricted turn.
Acura Vs Ford
Police report a two-vehicle accident at the Main Street flagpole about 4:15 pm January 15.
Motorist Joseph Bevan, 71, of 1 Cadey Lane, who was driving a 2002 Acura sedan, was westbound on Church Hill Road and then stopped at a stop sign at its intersection with Main Street, police said.
Bevan then proceeded straight ahead toward West Street, but collided with a 1995 Ford F-350 pickup truck, which was being driven northward on Main Street by Arden Williams, 50, of Brookfield, police said.
Police said Bevan told them that sun glare obscured his view of oncoming traffic.
There were no injuries. Police issued Bevan an infraction ticket for failure to grant the right of way.
Church Hill Road MVA
Motorist Andrea Nathans, 41, of Sandy Hook was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Suburban sport-utility vehicle westward on Church Hill Road about 2:11 pm January 14, when a large westbound truck stopped in front of the Chevrolet in order to allow a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta driven by Krystal Ferris, 18, of 33 Pole Bridge Road to turn left from southbound Edmond Road onto eastbound Church Hill Road, police said.
The Chevrolet then passed the truck on the left and collided with the turning Volkswagen, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Nathans an infraction ticket for passing in a no-passing zone.
Chrysler Vs Boulder
Motorist Timothy Stuart, 19, of 3 Sutherland Drive was driving a 2004 Chrysler Concorde sedan northward on New Lebbon Road about 8:15 am January 16, when a deer ran out in front of the vehicle, police said.
Stuart attempted to avoid colliding with the animal and lost control of the auto, driving off the right side of the road and striking a large boulder, police said.
Stuart was not injured. Police issued him an infraction for making a restricted turn.
Sideswiped Volkswagen
Motorist Christine Hartmann, 28, of Norwalk was driving a 2001 Volkswagen Golf sedan southward on Hawleyville Road about 8 pm January 15, and then stopped to make a left turn onto the on-ramp for westbound Interstate 84, police said.
A southbound vehicle then passed the stopped Volkswagen on the right, sideswiping the Volkswagen and continuing southward, police said. Hartmann was not injured.
The offending vehicle was described as a light-colored Lincoln Town Car, a large sedan that is often used as a limousine. The auto may have collision damage on its left side.
