Newtown Students To Be Featured In

Norwalk Youth Symphony Concert

NORWALK — The Norwalk Youth Symphony continues its 2004-05 season concert on Sunday, February 13, at 3 pm, at Norwalk Concert Hall, 125 East Avenue. Members of the Principal Orchestra include Newtown residents Josh Fitz, Bryon Kim. and Emily Loose.

The Principal Orchestra, under the direction of Tara Simoncic, will play Verdi’s overture to La Forza del Destino, Chabrier’s España Rhapsody, and four dances from Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, which will be performed with a group of dancers from The Ballet School of Stamford, Stephanie Marini, director. The Concert Orchestra, led by Richard Brooks, will perform Carmen Suite No. 1 by Bizet and the “Raiders March” from Raiders of the Lost Ark. The Interlude Orchestra, conducted by James Andrews, will play arrangements of Bach’s Air on a G String and Khachaturian’s “Sabre Dance” (from the Gayneh Ballet). Mr Andrews also conducts the Prelude Orchestra, which will perform arrangements of works by Mozart, Telemann, and Johann Strauss. Following the concert there will be a benefit reception that will include live and silent auction items.

The final concert of the 2004-05 Norwalk City Hall season will be the annual Mother’s Day concert on May 8. Also, the Principal Orchestra will perform at Carnegie Hall on May 25. In addition, the students will perform in chamber music concerts and at civic events, including the Greens Farms Congregational Church on January 23 and at CAMI Hall in New York City on May 15.

Tickets for the February 13 symphony concert are priced at $15 for adults and $8 for students and seniors, and are available at the door starting at 7:15 pm. As always, teachers will be admitted free of charge. For further information, call 203-866-4100.
