Canaan House Closing Next Week
Newtown residents and anyone doing business with town officials or the public health clinic in Canaan House should make note. All offices in the Fairfield Hills facility are closing next week and relocating to new quarters on Peckâs Lane.
The Board of Education, Planning and Zoning, Health District, Kevinâs Community Center, and the Newtown Fire Marshalâs office are all scheduled to open for business Monday, January 31, in leased commercial space at the Kendro Laboratory Products facility at 31 Peckâs Lane.
While the location is somewhat south of the town center, it can be directly and safely accessed via Main Street South.
Anyone planning to attend meetings of departments formerly held at Canaan House on the Fairfield Hills campus should watch for meeting notices in The Newtown Bee, or contact the town clerkâs office during weekday business hours. Not all meetings formerly held at Canaan House will be conducted at the Peckâs Lane facility, according to First Selectman Herb Rosenthal.
âSome of those meetings will be relocated to the Senior Center in Sandy Hook, to the library, at Edmond Town Hall, or in the basement of Town Hall South in the Police Station facility,â Mr Rosenthal said.
At press time, all town offices at Canaan House were scheduled to have their phone numbers and extensions reset at the new Peckâs Lane facility. Kevinâs Community Center plans to reopen for business at the Peckâs Lane location Wednesday, February 2.
