Volunteer For First Steps

DANBURY — The First Steps program, a unique support service that links volunteers by phone with first-time parents, will have training sessions beginning February 1 at the Danbury Visiting Nurse Association office.

First Steps is a telephone support model that uses trained volunteers to make regular contacts with first-time families during the first three to six months of parenting.

The volunteer starts by visiting the family in the hospital when the baby is born, then supports the new family by offering information, linking families to community resources, and providing a listening ear.

Volunteer training will be from 9:30 am to 2 pm on February 1 and 2 at the Danbury VNA office and February 9 at 10 am for the Danbury Hospital orientation training.
