Mastering Central Asia: A Book Talk
Mastering Central Asia: A Book Talk
EASTON â Karl E. Meyer and Shareen Blair Brysac, authors of the newly published Tournament of Shadows, The Great Game and the Race for Empire in Central Asia, will give a slide presentation and illustrated talk at Easton Public Library on Wednesday, February 2. The two will discuss their adventures along the Silk Road to research the struggle for mastery of Central Asia from 1812 to the present.
The history is full of soldiers, adventurers, mystics, princely pretenders, explorers, proconsuls and spymasters, the British, the Russians, the Swedes, the Americans, the Indians and the Germans, each of whom was looking for dreams of glory.
The authors also accessed long-sealed archives of Himmlerâs SS mission to Tibet and of Russian artist Roerichâs attempt to locate a Buddhist Utopia in Central Asia for New Dealer Henry Wallace.
Refreshments will be served, and reservations are necessary. Copies of Tournament of Shadows will be available for purchase. The November 1999 soft cover release carries a cover price of $35.
The program will be in the community room of Easton Library, at the corner of Moorhouse and Center Roads. Call 261-0134 for reservations or additional information.
