Glen Road Rollover

Motorist Jason E. Powell, 20, of 18 Sunnyview Terrace, Sandy Hook, who was driving a 1991 Acura Integra southbound on Glen Road about 11 pm January 10, while making a left curve in the road, lost control of the Acura and hit some rock ledge along the road’s northbound shoulder, according to police.

The Acura rolled over twice, police said. Powell was not injured. Police issued him an infraction ticket on a charge of failure to drive to the right on a curve.

Botsford Crash

Motorist Dennis D. O’Connor, 31, of Milford, who was driving a 1987 Ford truck southbound on South Main Street about 1:45 pm January 13, encountered a southbound vehicle which had stopped in front of him in order to turn left onto Ethan Allen Road, police said.

O’Connor applied his brakes, but skidded on the snowy road and struck a tree, police said. O’Connor was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for following too closely.

Refrigerator Truck

Motorist Ricky Lopez, 38, of New Haven, who was driving a 1987 International refrigerator truck northbound on South Main Street, stopped at a red light at Sand Hill Plaza, police said. Lopez then backed up and struck a 1983 Oldsmobile Cutlass driven by George E. Sabak, 61, of Monroe, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Lopez a written warning for unsafe backing.

Geo Vs Dodge

Giorgio Diorio, 66, of Norwalk, who was driving a 1997 Geo Tracker westbound on Button Shop Road about 11:45 am January 14, attempted to stop at a stop sign, but skidded into the northbound travel lane of South Main Street, police said.

As this was happening, motorist Sheri L. Zadrovitz, 40, of 16 Paugussett Road, who was driving a 1996 Dodge Caravan minivan southbound on South Main Street, made a left turn onto Button Shop Road, police said. The Geo then hit the Dodge, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Diorio a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

South Main Street

Motorist Marisol Quinones-Gomez, 37, of Monroe, who was driving a 1992 Ford Taurus northbound on South Main Street in a snowstorm about 10 am January 20, while traveling downhill began to slide and applied the brakes, slid off the road and struck a steel post and two flower pots, police report. There were no injuries or enforcement actions.

Birthday Gift

Police said a wrapped birthday gift was found January 22 on Cobblers Mill Road, off Jeremiah Road in Sandy Hook. The package had a card attached to it which was addressed to “Tawnya,” police said. Anyone with information about the gift is asked to contact patrol officer Richard Robinson at the police station, 426-5841.

Marlin Road

Police report they observed motorist Ryan Doheny, 19, of 73 Toddy Hill Road with a passenger about 9 pm January 22 on an unpaved section of Marlin Road now under construction in the Rollingwood residential subdivision in Sandy Hook.

Police said they stopped Doheny, investigated and charged him with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, illegal possession of alcohol, and simple trespassing. Police said they released Doheny for a February 3 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Church Hill Collision

Motorist Terri Johnson, 37, of Southbury, who was driving a 1992 Saturn SLI, was stopped in a line of traffic while westbound on Church Hill Road January 22 and attempted to make a U-turn to enter the eastbound lane, but in doing so struck eastbound motorist Jonathan C. Cote, 20, of 80 Alpine Drive, Riverside, who was driving a 1995 Ford Escort, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Johnson an infraction ticket on a turn violation.

Interstate Crash

State police said motorist Rachel Panasci, 28, of Waterbury, who was driving a 1996 Chevrolet Lumina eastbound on Interstate-84, west of Exit 10, about 11:15 am January 21, lost control of the auto and struck the guard railing along the left side of the highway.

 The impact sent the car back across the highway, causing it to hit the guard railing along the right side of the road, state police said.

 The car came to rest against that guard railing along the left side of the road.

 Neither Ms Panasci, nor a passenger, Victoria Panasci, 17 months old, of the same address, were injured, state police said. State police said Ms Panasci violated a traffic regulation on the use of multiple lane highways.

  

Great Ring Break-In

Police are investigating a burglary/larceny which occurred at a Great Ring Road home sometime between January 13 and 17. Police ask anyone with information about the crime to contact them at 426-5841.

Castle Meadow Mishap

Police report a one-car accident about 10:30 am January 21 on Castle Meadow Road. Motorist Karen A. Treichler, 56, of 11 Quaker Lane, who was driving a 1988 Isuzu southbound on Castle Meadow Road, hit a snow patch, according to police. The Isuzu then rolled over onto the driver’s side, blocking the road, police said. Treichler was not injured. Police said they issued her a written warning stating she made a restricted turn.

Huntingtown Rollover

Police report motorist Veronica L. Rebman, 33, of 3 Sycamore Drive, who was driving a 1999 Ford Taurus southbound on Huntingtown Road about noon January 21, hit a patch of ice and snow as she finished making a curve in the road and then skidded off the road, went up a steep slope and rolled completely over, coming to rest rightside up. Kate Rebman, 4, of the same address, was a passenger in the Ford, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned the driver for traveling too fast for conditions.

 

Huntingtown MVA

Police report motorist Mary J. Dedufour, 38, of Monroe, who was driving a 1997 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup truck, had stopped for a traffic flagger in the northbound travel lane of Huntingtown Road for a public utility work project about 11 am January 21.

Northbound motorist Kerri S. Morris, 34, of Monroe, who was driving a 1994 Saturn SL-2, then stopped behind the pickup truck, police said.

To allow room for oncoming traffic to pass, Dedufour backed up, inadvertently striking the Saturn, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Dedufour a written warning for unsafe backing.

MV Charges

Police charged Robert J. Uszakiewicz, 43, of Beacon Falls January 26 with misuse of a motor vehicle marker plate and a theft of a motor vehicle marker plate. Police released Uszakiewicz on a promise to appear February 8 in Danbury Superior Court to answer to the charges.

Safe Recovered

United Fire Company of Botsford firefighters helped police January 15 recover a safe from a pond at the D’Addario Sand and Stone Company, Inc, gravel mine on Button Shop Road.

A passerby had noticed the safe sticking out of the water and reported it to police, prompting the recovery effort, police said.

The safe, which had been opened, had been stolen from a Monroe address the day before, police said. Personal papers were recovered, police said.

Newtown and Monroe police are investigating the theft of the safe in connection with a string of burglaries in the two towns.
