Nighthawk Gymnasts Compete At Jonathan Law And New Milford

Newtown High School’s gymnastics team competed at Jonathan Law High, in Milford, against Law, Daniel Hand of Madison, and Oxford, on January 14. Newtown scored a 117.65 and placed fourth; Hand won the meet with a score of 128.75. There were 22 participants in the meet.

Maddie Jannott was second on the beam with a score of 8.3. Jannott also scored an 8.1 on the vault. Ally Kenny was sixth on the floor with an 8.3, tied for fourth on bars with a score of 7.9, and had an 8.1 on vault. Cam Vazquez tied for fourth on vault with an 8.2 and scored a 7.9 on the floor. Sarah MacMullan scored an 8 on the vault, and Alana O’Donnell scored a 7.5 on the vault.

Also competing for the Nighthawks were Amanda Brinkmann on vault, Olivia Brosnan on bars, Sammi Olah on beam, Liz Marcinek on bars and beam, and Alex Ferris on beam.

Newtown visited New Milford to compete against five single-school teams, the host Green Wave, Pomperaug of Southbury, Oxford, Nonnewaug, and Hamden, and a four-school team (Sacred Heart Academy, Thomaston, Woodland, and North Branford), on January 19.

New Milford won with a score of 129.000, Oxford placed second with 124.4, and Newtown came in third with 123.9. Pomperaug placed fourth with 120.650, Hamden was sixth with 107.8, and Nonnewaug (with only two competitors) was sixth with 47.5. The meet featured 46 participants, and the Nighthawks had some strong showings.

Jannott was sixth in the all around with a score of 32.2, and Kenny was ninth in the all around with a score of 31.650.
