Stefanie Clavette scored 14 points and Lauren Sarna added eight as the Suns held a fourth-quarter rally to defeat the Knicks, 28-24, in Newtown Youth Basketball Intermediate Girls Division action last week.

There were no games over the weekend leading up to the Martin Luther King holiday on Monday.

Games will resume this weekend.

But here are travel results from this weekend and late results from in-house action the previous weekend –

TRAVEL

Boys 6th

Fairfield PAL 43, Newtown 38 – Danny Gallagher scored 13 points, but Newtown fell short against Fairfield. Taylor Steimle had seven points while Erik Samuelson and Mason West combined for nine more. Anthony Berarducci played well.

Southbury 35, Newtown 33 – Austin Bonadio, Josh Barrett and Kevin LeBlanc worked the ball well on offense and Will Fetcher was strong on defense but the locals suffered a narrow loss. Taylor Steimle  had eight points while Anthony Berarducci tossed in six and Erik Samuelson added five.

Newtown 42, Easton 41 – Taylor Steimle scored 13 points and Anthony Berarducci chipped in eight to help Newtown hold off Easton for the win. Erik Samuelson and Josh Barrett combined for 11 as the locals took advantage of a couple of key turnovers and managed to run out the clock.

IN-HOUSE

Intermediate Girls

Suns 28, Knicks 24 – Stefanie Clavette and Lauren Sarna combined for 22 points as the Suns remained undefeated. Jessica Haitz had a fine all-around game as Sarah Stefko, Kelly O’Sullivan and Kyla Middeleer had strong defensive efforts. For the Knicks, Kelly Gaston poured in 20 points as Emily Nacewicz and Eric Kroesen played well.

Da Bears 28, Regulators 9 – Jessica Gibbons canned 14 points and Suzanne Wright grabbed 15 rebounds as Da Bears rolled to the win. Kaitlin Vos Winkel and Colleen Cosgrove played well. For the Regulators, Stephanie Perrotti had three points as Kelsey Packer, Alison Kron and Maggie Kennedy had solid performances.

Liberty 28, Huskies 12 – Laura Speed and Jade Mather combined for 14 points and Kiersten Lynch grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Liberty over the Huskies. Sara Principi (five assists) and Sarah Rose Hasselberger (four steals) played well. For the Huskies, Lindsay Jossick canned eight points as Erin Dlouhy, Morgan Cutolo and Jenna Poetl had solid floor games.

Blue Angels 19, Orange Crush 14 – Carlie Gehrman popped in six points and Erin Bell had seven rebounds to lead the Blue Angels to the win. Taylor Brady dished off five assists and Linda He had three steals. For the Crush, Madeline Keane scored eight points as Alex DeWolfe, Caroline Kingsley and Rachel Wiberg played well.

Blue Angels 26, Gaels 6 – Taylor Brady scored eight points and Jillian Moller grabbed six boards to lead the Blue Angels past the Gaels. Nicole Davis dished off four assists and Emily Peters made two steals. For the Gaels, Elizabeth Eiseman, Keri Chernoff and Jane Sclafani played well.
