How About A Four-Day School Week?
How About A Four-Day School Week?
To the Editor:
There is much talk about the overcrowding in our high school. I believe I have a possible solution.
Back in the dark ages when I went to high school, we went in the morning and left in the afternoon, with classes all day. If we were lucky we might get one or two study periods in a week. Today kids have one or more study (free) periods each day. If you put all of these free periods into one day the kids could go to school four days a week.
I suggest that you do this and put the students into a rotating four-day school week. One fifth of the kids would be off Monday, one fifth off on Tuesday etc. This would increase capacity by 20 percent. The kids may not like having to be in class all day but they would get an extra day off. Some adjustment would be needed for holidays but I think that this could be worked out.
Sincerely
