*Paintings by Beverly Branch: Artist Beverly Branch is exhibiting a collection of her paintings in the library’s Olga Knoepke Memorial Meeting Room until Tuesday, January 31. The exhibit, “Waterborne,”  features children at the beach and in the woods.

*Jewelry Dolls: Ivette Worrell began making jewelry dolls in 2003 and has since displayed them in many craft shows. The Newtown resident, along with husband David, is heavily involved in crafts that revolve around doll models and fine arts.

Mrs Worrell, who owns and runs a bridal services and fashion jewelry business, finds much of her inspiration for the dolls while working within the bridal business. A collection of her handmade dolls is on view in the first floor display case until the end of the month.

Have You Lost Your Heart?

A heart with a name and birth date was found in a book donated to the book sale. It looks to have great sentimental value.

Is it yours? Please call the library if you are missing this special item.

*What is your favorite Nutmeg Book? All students in grades 4-6 who have read one or more of the current Nutmeg nominees are invited to a round table discussion on Wednesday, January 25, from 6:30 to 7:30.

At the end of the discussion, participants will vote for their favorite. The two top vote getters will be chosen for The 2006 Battle of the Books, which will return in March.

Young Adult Programs

*Nutmeg Books Voting: It’s time for Connecticut young people to vote for their favorite books that have been nominated for the CT Nutmeg Awards.  This year there are ten books in each of the Intermediate and Teen levels.

Any students who are not voting at their schools may cast ballots at Booth Library in the Young Adult or Children’s department.  It is not necessary to read all of the books to vote — just pick your favorite from the ones you have read.

*YA Book Talk: Let’s talk about Eragon by Christopher Paolini. Our next Young Adult book discussion will be on Wednesday, February 8, from 4 to 5 pm, in the Story Room.

In Alagaesia, a 15-year-old boy finds a mysterious stone that weaves his life into an intricate tapestry of destiny, magic and power, peopled with dragons, elves and monsters.

These monthly book discussions for readers in grades 5-9, or any young person who has read the book, are co-sponsored by Reed Intermediate School, and books are available at both libraries.

Sign up at the in person at Booth Library or call 426-4533.
