Celebrate Yoga Day USA With The Graceful Planet
The Graceful Planet is offering a free yoga class from January 23 through January 28 in celebration of the seventh annual Yoga Day USA. Guests are invited to try a yoga or Pilates class at The Graceful Planetâs studio in Sandy Hook.
Yoga Day USA is sponsored by Yoga Alliance, a nonprofit organization that sets educational standards for yoga schools and teachers.
Yoga has become mainstream in the United States, with more than 16.5 million people practicing regularly. According to a recent Yoga Journal/Harris poll, more than twice that number has heard about yogaâs benefits and would like to give it a try.
More than 90 percent of the people surveyed in a 2005 American Psychological Association poll said perceptions and thoughts affect physical health and for millions of Americans of all ages, yoga is integral to reducing stress, managing weight, and increasing their overall sense of well-being.
People who practice yoga find it helpful for health conditions including back or neck pain, arthritis, anxiety, depression, and fatigue. Yoga challenges the body and calms the mind while providing a sense of relaxation and rejuvenation. The top ten reasons to try yoga are: stress relief, pain relief, better breathing, flexibility, weight management, increased strength, improved circulation, cardiovascular conditioning, better body alignment, and focus on the present.
