John “Jack” Victor Polvere, Sr, 81, of Southbury, formerly of Bridgeport and Shelton, died unexpectedly January 15. He was the beloved husband of Doreen (Norton) Polvere.

Mr Polvere owned and operated World of Bikes in Newtown for 25 years, before retiring.

He proudly served his country as corporal first class in the US Army during the Korean War.

He began his career at Warners Corset Company in the shipping room, and became a purchasing agent. He then became self-employed and owned Bulls Head Newsroom in Bridgeport, before World of Bikes.

Mr Polvere enjoyed watching football in his favorite chair, listening to classical music, shopping, classic cars, feeding the neighborhood birds and animals, and tinkering — he was the “Mr Fix-It,” but his favorite times were in the company of his loving family. According to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he made the best ice cream cones. He will be sorely missed and lovingly remembered as a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle to many.

Besides his wife, he leaves his five children and their spouses, Patti Jennings, Jackie and  Ken Williams , Suzanne and Don Dorman, John Polvere, Jr, and wife Hannah, and Rick and Kim Polvere. He also leaves seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his sister, Sylvia Polvere; and several nieces and nephews. Four sisters and two brothers predeceased Mr Polvere.

A service to honor his life will take place Tuesday, January 20, at 10 am, at the Southbury Funeral Home of Munson Lovetere, 235 Main Street North. Burial will follow at Southford Cemetery, Hawley Road, Oxford. Calling hours will take place Monday, January 19, from 5 to 7 pm.
