Winterset Group Takes Trip To Okemo

Some 50 members of the Winterset Ski Club traveled to Okemo Mountain in Vermont earlier this month for a weekend ski trip, run by Susan Brier. Two new little skiers, Tim Bovaird (age 3) and Meghan O’Rourke (age 4), came along and took ski lessons and no doubt will soon be scoring points on the mountain for Winterset’s junior team! The bus left Newtown on Friday, January 5, and the participants enjoyed a “party” atmosphere enjoying snacks, drinks and a movie along the way. The group stayed at The Echo Lake Inn, which was built in 1840 as a Victorian summer hotel and today  remains one of the few authentic Vermont country inns operating year round. On Saturday evening, Laurence, the innkeeper, presented a ghostly overview of the inn and spoke about the one room – assigned to the bus driver – where most of the ghostly activity usually takes place. The snow conditions on the mountain were not great as it still seems to be spring in New England, but Okemo and Winterset skiers made the best of it. Many people were on the mountain both days and those that weren’t enjoyed the balmy weather and other activities.
