60th ANNUAL HOUSE TOUR TO FEATURE LITCHFIELD HOMES TO BENEFIT CONNECTICUT JUNIOR REPUBLIC;

LITCHFIELD, CONN. — The 60th Annual Open House Day Tour to benefit the Connecticut Junior Republic (CJR) will be held Saturday, July 14, from 10 am to 5 pm, rain or shine. Conducted by the Litchfield Aid of CJR, the tour will feature a selection of Litchfield homes of historic and architectural significance and additional points of interest. The self-guided tour begins at the Information Booth on the Litchfield Green, where tickets will be for sale on the day of the tour.

A preview tour will be offered the evening of Friday, July 13, from 5:30 to 7:30. The preview tour will be followed by a cocktail reception from 7 to 9:30 at a special property in Litchfield. Ticket information for the preview tour and party is at 860-567-9423.

Advance tickets for the Saturday tour are available for $25 by contacting the Litchfield Aid of CJR, PO Box 214, Litchfield CT 06759. Include a stamped, self-addressed envelope with credit card information, check or money order, made payable to: Litchfield Aid of CJR. Advance orders are nonrefundable and must be received no later than Friday, June 29. Requests for tickets after this date will be held for pickup on the day of the tour at the ticket tent on the green.

Tickets will be available on the day of the tour for $30 each for adults and children at the ticket tent on the green. A special group rate of $20 per person is offered for tour groups that reserve a minimum of 20 tickets in advance.

Visitors may enjoy lunch at the Connecticut Junior Republic for $6 from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm. Other points of interest on the tour include the Oliver Wolcott Library and the town’s churches, Litchfield History Museum and Tapping Reeve House and Law School. The history museum will feature an exhibition, “Preserving Craftsmanship: Contemporary Litchfield County Furniture Makers.” The exhibit will feature the work of 15 Litchfield County furniture makers and their interpretation of various craft styles.
