Tibetan Monks Present Programs In Woodbury
Seven Tibetan Buddhist monks from the Drepung Gomang Monastery in South India will be offering power prayers for peace, prosperity, and healing in three weekend programs at the Woodbury Yoga Center on West Side Road in Woodbury.
On Friday, January 21, at 8:15 pm, the monks will recite prayers for wold peace followed by the performance of a traditional monastic debate on Buddhism and open discussion.
On Saturday, January 22, at 6:30 pm, prayers will be offered to Mahakala, an aspect of the divine which brings about protection from negative influences for individuals, the community, and the world.
On Sunday, January 23, at 4 pm, the monks will reciete prayers for healing to the traditional Tibetan Medicine Buddha. Participants are invited to include specific individuals in prayer.
The purpose of the the current tour of the Drepung Gomang Monastery monks in the US is to educate Americans about the current situation in Tibet and to raise funds for their monastery, which is in dire need of housing, food, medical, and educational provisions for hundreds of monks, some as young as six years old, who have fled to India from Tibet.
