It is estimated that this 2015 Buick Verano sedan was traveling about 30 to 35 miles per hour at about 2:43 pm on January 15 when it struck a tree head-on near Hawleyville Road, resulting in heavy vehicle damage. Police said motorist Stafford Mead, 95, of Brookfield was driving the Buick northward on Hawleyville Road, north of its intersection with North Ridge Drive, when the vehicle swerved to the left, drove across a lawn and struck a tree head-on. The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported him to Danbury Hospital for treatment of suspected minor injuries. Six Hawleyville Volunteer Fire Company members responded to the accident. Police issued Mead a written warning for failure to drive to the right. (Bee Photo, Gorosko)
