Nighthawks Swim Past Bethel
Newtown High School's boys' swimming and diving team defeated host Bethel, at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury, 90-73 on January 16.
The 400 yard medley relay team of Peter Fagerholm, Colby Delia, Mike Annesley, and Xavier Williams was first in a time of 1:46.19.
David Lawrence won the 200 freestyle race in 1:56.03, edging teammate Rick Irving (1:57.59).
Fagerholm took the top spot in the 200 yard individual medley event, clocking in at 2:05.72.
In the 50 free, Annesley nipped teammate Mason Suba as both finished with official times of 23.91.
Kyle Gaynor was first in the diving competition with a score of 245.
Suba and Annesley gave Newtown a one-two finish in the 100 butterfly with times of 56.69 and 57.42.
In the 100 free, Irving was Newtown's top finisher and placed second overall with a time of 54.25.
Lawrence won the 500 free in 5:13.32.
Newtown, after locking up the team win, exhibitioned the final four events.
The 200 free relay of Suba, Annesley, Irving, and Lawrence, had the best time, finishing in 1:39.68.
Mike Yu was fastest in the 100 backstroke race with a time of 1:05.75. Delia was the best finisher in the 100 breaststroke, making his final touch in 1:08.16.
The 400 free relay team of Irving, Williams, Suba, and Fagerholm, finished in 3:35.62.
Newtown will host New Fairfield on Tuesday, January 23, beginning at 5 pm.
