Godfrey Wins Shot-Put Event At Yale Classic

Newtown High School’s Jack Godfrey won the boys’ shot-put event at the Yale University High School Track Classic, in New Haven, January 15-16, with a throw of 49-10.50. Godfrey was among 17 competitors, representing schools in Connecticut and out of state — including Pennsylvania and Massachusetts — in the event.

Godfrey has the longest shot-put throw of the indoor track and field season in the state of Connecticut, Newtown Coach Tom Brant said.

Newtown’s 4x800 meter relay team of Ethan Burg, Richard Linley, Brenden Reeds, and Joel Duval qualified for the Class LL state championships with a time of 8:44.62.

The 4x200 team of Jack Lavelle, Cormac Roe, James Carney, and Cole Terry improved their Class LL qualifying time by running a 1:38.61.

Terry qualified for the LL championships in the 55 meter dash by running a 7.03, and improved his LL time in the 55 hurdles with a time of 8.50.

Burg qualified for the LL championships in the 3000 by running a 9:35.89. Christian Lestik improved his South-West Conference qualifying time in the 3000 with a 9:46.18.

Reeds qualified for the LL championships in the one mile race by running a 4:46.87. Duval improved his SWC qualifying time in the one mile run with a time of 4:51.28.
