Zoo Sets Winter Hours

BRIDGEPORT — Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo provides a “wild experience” for families, couples and individuals of all ages. The zoo has a proud history of more than 80 years as Connecticut’s only zoo. As an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and participant in AZA’s Species Survival Plan, the zoo is committee to the preservation of endangered animals and is continually developing strategies that will protect species and preserve their wild habitats.

The zoo is open year-round and exhibits nearly 300 animals, including several endangered species including tigers and bears.

While to zoo itself is still open daily from 9 am until 4 pm (as is the main gift shop), the following adjustments have been made for the winter:

The carousel is closed on weekdays, and open only on weekends from 9:30 am until 3:45 pm.

The Peacock Café is open from 9:30 am until 3 pm Monday through Friday, and from 9:30 am to 3:45 pm on weekends. The Jungle Canteen is closed for the winter.

Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo is at 1875 Noble Avenue, easily reached from the Route 25 Connector. Call 203-394-6565 or visit BeardsleyZoo.org for additional information.

Special Events

The zoo has two special events coming up this month.

First, in conjunction with the Trumbull Animal Group, Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo will host a Pet Adoption Day from noon to 3 pm on Saturday, January 19, at the zoo’s Hanson Exploration Station.

Dogs and cats will be available for adoption, and information on responsible pet ownership will be provided. Zoo admission is not required for this event.

Then, in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr’s Birthday, the zoo will offer half price admission on Monday, January 21. This makes admission for adults $4.50 and admission for children 3-11 and seniors $3.50.
