Three Bomb Scares Prompt Emergency Responses
Within a 17-hour period on Wednesday and Thursday, police responded to three local bomb scares, none of which involved an actual bomb, officials said.
At 3:14 pm on Wednesday, police responded to a report of a bomb scare at Charter Communications at 9 Commerce Road. No bomb was found. Details on that incident were not available from police.
About 5:10 am on Thursday, a janitor found some graffiti on a student rest room wall in Newtown High School indicating a bomb was present in the building, but no bomb was found.
About 7:50 am on Thursday, graffiti was found on a student rest room wall in Newtown Middle School indicating the presence of a bomb, but no bomb was found. The school was not evacuated.
In each case, police alerted fire officials on the situations. Firefighters stood by at their firehouses in the event that they needed.
Police are investigating the bomb scares.
Newtown Middle School has been the scene of several bomb scares in recent weeks, based on the content of graffiti found there.
