Saturn Vs Honda

About 8 am January 10, motorist Gary Langley, 60, of Portsmouth, N.H., who was driving a 2000 Saturn station wagon, struck the rear end of a 2004 Honda CRV driven by Denise Marr, 48, of 154 Head O’ Meadow Road, police said.

The low-speed accident occurred on Head O’ Meadow Road, at its intersection with Castle Hill Road. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Langley for following too closely.

Burglary/Vandalism

Early on the morning of December 28, someone entered a construction site at 123 South Main Street and damaged materials inside a building there, as well as some construction equipment on the site, police said.

Crimes committed included first-degree criminal mischief and third-degree burglary. Both offenses are felonies. The damage done at the property exceeds $1,500 in value.

The property is the former site of The Fireside Inn, which is being converted into the Highland Plaza, restaurant/retail complex.

Police ask anyone with information on the intrusion to contact them at 426-5841.

Jeep Off Road

About 10:40 pm January 5, motorist Ryan Gleason, 25, of Derby, who was driving a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee westward on Riverside Road, near Philo Curtis Road, lost control of the vehicle on an icy downgrade, police said.

The Jeep struck curbing and then hit a utility pole and a tree on the right side of the road, police said. Ambulance volunteers transported Gleason to Danbury Hospital to be checked for injuries, according to police. Police took no enforcement.

Church Hill Collision

About 3:12 pm January 7, motorist Jeanette Potenziani, 68, of Danbury, who was driving a 1994 Oldsmobile Royale sedan westward on Church Hill Road, attempted to make a left turn into a commercial parking lot at 66 Church Hill Road, police said.

In making that maneuver, the Oldsmobile collided with motorist Gale Barna, 57, of Southbury, who was driving a 2001 Buick Century sedan eastward on Church Hill Road, police said.

There were no injuries. That location is the scene of many motor vehicle accidents in which westbound motorists attempt to make a left turn across two lanes of eastbound traffic.

Potenziani received a written warning for making a restricted turn, police said.

Berkshire Accident

About 8 pm January 5, while driving westward on Berkshire Road, a 2000 Ford coupe driven by motorist Andrew Gleacher, 17, of Leopard Drive went out of control on the wet, icy pavement and struck an embankment twice, police report.

Neither Gleacher, nor two teenage passengers in the Ford, were injured, police said.

Gleacher received an infraction ticket for failure to drive to the right, according to police.

Subaru Crash

Motorist Michael Ryan, 43, of 3 West Farm Ridge Road was driving a 2002 Subaru Forester southward on Boggs Hill Road, and was approaching that road’s intersection with Head O’ Meadow Road, when the Subaru began negotiating a curve, but went off the road and struck a tree, police said. The collision occurred about 7 pm January 11.

Police said Ryan told them that the vehicle went off the road due to foggy, wet conditions. Ryan received possible injuries in the accident, police said. Police issued Ryan a written warning for making a restricted turn.

I-84 DUI

State police report they stopped motorist Alberto Rincon, 25, of Oakville on eastbound Interstate 84, near Exit 10, to investigate at about 12:13 am on January 12.

State police then charged Rincon with driving under the influence, failure to drive in the established lane, and driving without a license.

After processing, state police released Rincon on $500 bail for a January 28 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Pedestrian Incident

State police report that they received some Emergency 911 telephone calls from motorists traveling on eastbound Interstate 84, near Exit 11, informing that a pedestrian was running on the highway at about 2:30 am on January 13.

State police said that when they arrived at the scene, pedestrian Gino Furio, 28, of New Britain became aggravated and combative, after which he was taken into custody without incident.

State police charged Furio with reckless use of the highway by a pedestrian and with interfering with police. After posting $1,500 bail, Furio was released for a January 21 court appearance.

Highway Violations

State police said they stopped motorist Emmanuel Banor, 32, of Manchester for driving 80 miles per hour in a 65-mph zone on eastbound Interstate 84, near Exit 11, at about 3:15 pm January 4.

After investigating, state police charged Banor with speeding, driving without a license, and possession of less than four ounces of marijuana.

State police released Banor on $1,000 bail for a January 21 court appearance.

Interstate DUI

State police report that they stopped motorist Arthur Brunton, 43, of 7 Canterbury Lane for driving erratically on eastbound Interstate 84 about 8:40 pm on December 31.

After investigating, state police said they charged Brunton with driving under the influence and with failure to drive in the proper lane.

Brunton was released on $500 bail for a January 14 court appearance, state police said.

South Main Deer

While traveling northward on South Main Street at about 11:40 pm January 13, motorist Luz Barrios, 63, of Patterson, N.Y., who was driving a 1999 Mitsubishi Mirage sedan, encountered a deer that had run onto the road, resulting in a collision, after which the deer ran off, police said.

Barrios was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Multiple Charges

Police report they stopped motorist Steven R. Smith, 40, of Bridgeport for a motor vehicle violation near 228 South Main Street about 8:30 am January 15.

On investigating, police charged Smith with failure to obey traffic signs and markings, driving while under suspension, failure to carry a current vehicle registration, and illegal possession of prescription medication.

After processing, police released Smith on a written promise to appear February 1 in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges.

Newtown police said they turned over Smith to Bridgeport police who had a warrant against him in connection with a January 2007 incident.

SUV Vs Dog

Police report motorist Jennifer Wright, 37, of Bethel was driving a 2004 Nissan Pathfinder southward near 219 Hattertown Road about 8 am January 15, when a German shepherd entered the road.

Wright braked, but could not stop the SUV and it collided with the animal, police said. Wright then walked the injured animal to the side of the road and stayed with it.

The dog had broken away from a leash being held by its owner, who was walking the animal in a nearby field, police said. The owner was searching for the dog when the accident occurred.

The dog was treated for injuries at a local veterinarian’s office, police said. Wright was not injured in the accident. Police took no enforcement.

Nissan Hits Dodge

Police report a two-vehicle collision on Wasserman Way, at its intersection with Berkshire Road about 11 am January 14.

Motorist Christos Vasiliou, 22, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2004 Nissan Maxima, struck a 1999 Dodge Durango driven by Nicle Ortiz, 27, of Waterbury, police said. There were no injuries. Vasiliou received a written warning for following too closely.

DUI Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Stephen Girolametti, 43, of Ridgefield came to the police station on January 16 and was charged with four offenses in connection with a serious two-vehicle head-on accident, in which he was one of the motorists on the night of October 3 on Mt Pleasant Road, near Sedor Lane.

Girolametti was driving a pickup truck holding a passenger, which collided with a sedan. All three people involved in the accident were injured.

Police arrested Girolametti on the warrant on charges of driving under the influence, second-degree assault with a motor vehicle, being distracted while driving, and with a travel lane violation.

After posting $100 bail, police released Girolametti for a January 30 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Roseann Mason, 47, of 44 Maltbie Road came to the police station on January 16 and was charged with  failure to pay wages and with failure to keep records.

Police said the charges stem from a state Department of Labor investigation. Police released Mason on a written promise to appear in court on January 24.

MV Charges

Police report they stopped motorist Jeffrey Peterson, 19, of 7 Bridge End Farm Lane for a motor vehicle violation at the intersection of Queen Street and Glover Avenue about 7 pm January 16.

After investigating, police charged Peterson with failure to use a signal and with driving while under suspension. Police released him on a written promise to appear in court January 30.
