New After School Program Announced
New After School Program Announced
Education Connection in Litchfield is a regional education service center serving school districts in western Connecticut, including Newtown. The service center announces a new curriculum enhancement program, the Before & After School Enrichment Services (BASES). BASES is funded by a Connecticut Department of Education grant, in partnership with the National Science Foundation-funded Youth Development and Training Resource, and created in collaboration with participating school districts, Newtown Youth & Family ServicesT the Center for 21st Century Skills at Education Connection, and Northwest Connecticut Regional After School Network.
The program will begin in February.
At its Newtown location, BASES will enrich Education Connectionâs School Age Programs.
Grant funds will be used to implement a comprehensive Parent Partnership Program intended to help working families and to introduce students to an age appropriate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) curriculum. STEM is designed to engage students and to strengthen their academic performance.
The family centered activities and parental advisory board of BASES will help parents become more involved in their childrenâs education, and will also introduce them to need based scholarships.
