Devoted Family Man
John Wheeler Cole, Jr, 78, of Danbury, and previously of Sandy Hook, died January 12 in Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of the late Noreen (Guyer) Cole. He was born in North Brookfield, Mass., on October 17, 1929, a son of John W. and Alice (Fullam) Cole.
Mr Cole grew up in Littleton, N.H., where his father ran a hardware store, and was a graduate of Littleton High School. He then attended Worchester Academy in Worchester, Mass. to prepare for entering the Air Force. He was a pilot in the US Air Force during the Korean War, flying B-29s. He was then an airline pilot for TWA until his retirement in 1984.
A resident of Danbury since 2000, he was a longtime resident of Sandy Hook and had also lived in Deerfield Beach, Fla., for ten years.
Mr Cole will be remembered as a good father and husband, devoted to his family.
Survivors include a son, Scott John Cole and his wife, Karen, and their sons, Steven and Daniel of Bethel; a daughter, Mary Jane Fennely and her four children of Florida; a brother, Boyd Cole and his wife, Elizabeth, of Lincoln, Calif.; a sister, Ann Dolan and her husband, Richard, of West Topsham, Vt.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held January 15 in St Rose Cemetery, Sandy Hook.
