Multiple Charges
Police report they stopped motorist Steven R. Smith, 40, of Bridgeport for a motor vehicle violation near 228 South Main Street about 8:30 am January 15.
On investigating, police charged Smith with failure to obey traffic signs and markings, driving while under suspension, failure to carry a current vehicle registration, and illegal possession of prescription medication.
After processing, police released Smith on a written promise to appear February 1 in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges.
Newtown police said they turned over Smith to Bridgeport police who had a warrant against him in connection with a January 2007 incident.
SUV Vs Dog
Police report motorist Jennifer Wright, 37, of Bethel was driving a 2004 Nissan Pathfinder southward near 219 Hattertown Road about 8 am January 15, when a German shepherd entered the road.
Wright braked, but could not stop the SUV and it collided with the animal, police said. Wright then walked the injured animal to the side of the road and stayed with it.
The dog had broken away from a leash being held by its owner, who was walking the animal in a nearby field, police said. The owner was searching for the dog when the accident occurred.
The dog was treated for injuries at a local veterinarianâs office, police said. Wright was not injured in the accident. Police took no enforcement.
Nissan Hits Dodge
Police report a two-vehicle collision on Wasserman Way, at its intersection with Berkshire Road about 11 am January 14.
Motorist Christos Vasiliou, 22, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2004 Nissan Maxima, struck a 1999 Dodge Durango driven by Nicle Ortiz, 27, of Waterbury, police said. There were no injuries. Vasiliou received a written warning for following too closely.
