Newtown resident Tyler Bigham, son of Keith and Patricia Bennett-Bigham, was named to the Dean’s List for the first quarter at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, N.Y. Tyler is a freshman at RIT, and is majoring in mechanical engineering.

Amber D. Butler, daughter of Shawn and Laurel Butler and a 2005 graduate of Newtown High School, was named to the dean’s list at Buckness University in Lewisburg, Penn., for outstanding academic achievement during the fall semester of the 2007-2008 school year

Newtown High School student Sarah Peck was named one of five finalists for the Barton L. Weller scholarship. The late Mr Weller was the founder of Vitramon Incorporated in Monroe. The scholarship contest winner will receive a $12,000 scholarship. The scholarship’s purpose is to encourage academic excellence in a substantial independent research or study project. Sarah submitted a project called “A Visual Representation of Sound Wave,” designed to “gain a greater understanding of the way sound moves in a more concrete and less theoretical way than is currently being used.” The awards ceremony will be held at Fairfield University on May 7.

Maggie Hemingway earned a place on the Dean’s List for the fall semester of 2007 at High Point University in High Point, N.C. Maggie lives in Sandy Hook.

Alex Hennessey of Sandy Hook received Distinguished Honors on the first semester’s Dean’s List at the College of Charleston. Alex is a freshman, and a member of the Honors College with the College of Charleston.

Quinnipiac University in Hamden recently announced its Dean’s List for the fall 2007 semester. Erin Baier and Lauren Pade, both from Newtown, were among those named to the list.
