Barbara M. Richter Hannah

Loving And Devoted To Family

Barbara M. Richter Hannah, 73, died January 12 surrounded by her family. She was a native of Garrett, Ind., and the wife of 50 years to Robert “Bob” W. Hannah. The Hannahs were longtime residents of Newtown and raised their family here.

Mrs Hannah was a medical technologist and a homemaker. She received her undergraduate degree in medical technology from St Francis College in Fort Wayne, Ind.

She loved spending time at Sebago Lake on Frye Island in Maine where she began a garden club and directed the creation of the town gardens. Mrs Hannah was a very creative and artistic lady who enjoyed painting, rug hooking, baking monster cookies, and sewing.

She loved to travel with her husband, and they took several trips overseas. They lived in Naples, Fla., for 13 years, where she volunteered to mentor children in Naples by reading them stories. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

Survivors include her husband; daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca Specht and her husband, Scott, of North Andover, Mass., and Clare Sessa and her husband, Christian, of Warsaw, Ind.; sons and daughters-in-law, Matthew W. Hannah and his wife, Katherine, of Newton, N.J., John Hannah and his wife, Darci, of Howell, Mich., Stephen Hannah of Chino Hills, Calif., and Robert “Rick” Hannah and his wife, Dana, of Parkland, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; sisters, Theresa Hoy, Mary Ann Patrick, and Rita Persing; and brothers, Maynard and John Richter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Orpha Teders and Aloysius “Al” Richter.

A funeral mass was held January 15 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church by Very Reverend Robert Benko.
