8th Grade Girls Travel
Danbury 54, Newtown 45 â The 8th grade Newtown Girls Travel team lost to Danbury despite a strong shooting performance from Riley Wurtz and Meghan Condon who had 19 and 11 points, respectively. Riley continued her strong 3-point shooting with 5 in the contest. The game was tied at half time behind a strong defensive effort from Carly Iwanicki, Kendall Svanda, and Stephanie Clavette but Newtown could not hold on down the stretch.
Monroe 51, Newtown 41 â Newtown came up on the short end against Monroe on Saturday. The team battled to within 5 points at the end of the third quarter but could not reduce the gap in the fourth quarter. Riley Wurtz and Jessica Lynch lead the offensive effort with 10 points apiece. Alyssa Finkenstadt and Arianna Papaj added 9 points and 6 points, respectively.
Newtown 44, Westport 20 â Newtown regained its winning ways by beating Westport behind a balanced offensive attack. Abbey Doski and Riley Wurtz led the way with 8 points and 7 points, respectively. Alyssa Finkenstadt, Jessica Lynch, Carly Iwanicki, Meghan Condon, and Jessica Jowdy all had 4 points apiece. Kendall Svanda and Stephanie Clavette rounded out the scoring with 2 points apiece. Nora Murphy ignited the defense with 2 steals in the contest.
Newtown 56, New Milford 34 â Newtown remained on the winning track by beating New Milford behind a 16 for 26 shooting effort by Riley Wurtz (17 points), Jessica Lynch (12 points), and Meghan Condon (8 points). Nora Murphy added 5 points while Abbey Doski, Stephanie Clavette, Arianna Papaj, and Kendall Svanda chipped in 4 points apiece.

7th Grade Girls Travel
Newtown 27, Westport 8 â The Newtown Attack 7th grade girls travel basketball team notched three more wins this weekend to bring their record to 16-2. In a 27-8 victory over Westport, Suzie Gissen and Catie Yakush combined for 8 points to lead the Attack. Britteny Tolla dished 4 assists.
Newtown 57, Danbury 35 â In a 57-35 win over Danbury, Erin Kenning popped in 22 and Clare Miles had 15 in a tough battle. Maddie Good dropped in 7 points of her own and Meaghan Harkins added a few baskets too. Samantha Steimle had 5 assists and 4 steals.
Newtown 36, Southbury 23 â In a league rivalry with Southbury, the Attack again outshone their opponents with a 36- 23 victory. Bridget Power was a force to be reckoned with, scoring 10 with an impressive 11 assists. Kristy Papaj and Stephanie Roman combined for 6 more and both controlled the defensive boards.

6th Grade Boys Travel
Newtown 52, New Fairfield 33 â Mike Davis had 12 points, Bubba Le Blanc 9, and Jim Parker 8 to lead Newtown to the win. Nick Cagganello had 7 boards while Logan Puleri pulled down 6. Conner Gallagher and Matt Mossbarger each had 3 assists while Matt White led a strong defensive effort.
Newtown 65, Monroe 35 â Bubba Le Blanc had 16 points while Matt Hoyt and Mike Davis each chipped in 12 to lead Newtown over Monroe. Matt Mossbarger dished out 8 assists and Jonah Muniz had 5 steals. Nick Cagganello and Logan Puleri led Newtownâs strong effort on the boards with 13 and 7 rebounds, respectively

6th Grade Girls Travel
Newtown 26, Weston 21 â Danielle Shine dominated the offense with 13 points, Mary Joe Rossi dropped in 5, and Kristie VosWinkel contributed 2 points in an exciting game. Amanda Cirella helped out with one basket, as did Amanda Crowell and Jenny Indelicato. On defense, Danielle had 3 blocks and Jessie Principi had 3 assists. Hope McMorran and Kerry Scallon were lead stealers, and Tess Murray pulled down the rebounds.
Darien 23, Newtown 7 â Turnovers were a problem for the Bounce, and Darien held their opponent to one basket by Kristie VosWinkel. Danielle Shine and Kerry Scallon each scored 2 free throws. Hope McMorran sank one foul shot and grabbed the most rebounds. Tess Murray was busy under the basket, Amanda Cirella was strong on defense, and Mary Joe Rossi and Jessie Principi were aggressive.

Junior Boys
Regulators 53, Nighthawks 43 â Mike Lord popped in 18 points. Shaun Dardin and James Mooney played a good defensive game for the Regulators. The Nighthawks Michael Scharfinberg chipped in 11 points. Defensive leaders included Greg Horne and Jon Hull. Brandon Marks played well.
Tar Heels 50, Statesmen 37 â Jake Feinstein dropped in 11 points and Mike Dorbert dished 4 assists. Jack Zahansky lead the stealers with 3 and Pat Riccardi grabbed 5 rebounds for the Tar Heels. The Statesmenâs Will Fletcher pulled in 10 points. Playing good defense was Brian Kruger with 4 assists, Chris Devaney, 5 steals, and Dean Lindquist, 3 rebounds.
Avalanche 36, Wildcats 29 â Michael Senf had the game of his career shooting 5 for 10 from the field and 3 of 4 from the foul line. Sean Burson contributed another 11 points for the Avalanche. Ben Stoller, 6 steals and Matt Shannon, 7 rebounds for good defensive play. The Wildcatsâ Mario Pisaghelli popped in 10 points. Jamey MacDonald had 15 rebounds. Calton Sposta and Shaun Mangold played well.
Nets 43, Bears 39 â Austin Bonadio dropped in 17 points. Solid defense by Austin Ryder, Patrick Thornberg (12 rebounds), Austin Puleri with (9 rebounds) and Brendan Callery (5 steals), and Phil Reynolds (5 assists) for the Nets. Greenwood and Phillips of the Bears drove in a combined 20 points. Defensive leaders included Kyle Buckley (4 assists), Justin Cherry (4 steals), and Kyle Harrington (8 rebounds).
Pride 41, Vipers 28 â Leading scorer for the Pride was Collin Cooper with 15 points. JP Kitzmiller had 6 assists, Robbie Hughes 3 steals and Taggert Smith 7 rebounds. Chad Magoulas and Kyler Harmeling played dominating inside games. Richard Sandler dropped in 12 points. Good defense was played by the whole team. Jim Pears and Luke Sherwood shared grabbing the rebounds.
Gunners 42, Huskies 37 â Dunnigan popped in 11 points with Sayegh contributing 8. Great team effort for the Gunners with 4 steals by Helgren and 8 rebounds by Volkers. Dominek Fedak dropped in 19 points. Dillon Kelly and Ried Schmidt led a strong defensive effort.
Gunners 35, Nuggets 34 â Dunnigan and Ekstom shared 15 points. Burton and Martinez had big buckets. Great defense was played by Fiore, Helgren, and Sayegh for the Gunners. Mike Lengle popped in 19 points for the Nuggets. Mike Lobosco and David Cartisano combined for 12 points. Sean Decker grabbed 11 rebounds.
Sonics 47, Maulers 45 â Sean Ross popped in 18 points, Noah Sock played a great floor game. Joe Davis, Jack Kearney, and Kevin Dennis led a great game defensively. Devillis with 22 points played a great game offensively. A strong defensive game was led by Gabe Ruiz with 6 assists, Christian Mather with 5 steals, and P.J. Hickey with 6 rebounds.
6th Grade Intermediate Boys
Free Agents 35, Nighthawks 34 â In a closely fought battle, the Free Agents got past the Nighthawks 35â34. Chase Wurtz led the Free Agents dumping in 10 points, with Collin Post and Justin Weiner contributing 8 and 6 points apiece. Ryan Rosenburger was tenacious on defense. Brentin Scott led the Nighthawks with 10 points, with Jimmy Leidlein contributing 8. Andrew Tarantino led the team with assists. Nate Steinebrey and Dan Spillane were the defensive standouts.
Huskies 45, Mavericks 27 â Tommy Gleason hit for 13 points and Angel Santos contributed 10 to lead the Huskies to the victory. Jacob Moore had 5 assists and Dan Winn was a defensive standout. Robert Linden with 12 points and Otto Kerler with 7 led the Mavericks offensive efforts. Kerler and Marc Henandez (5 rebounds) were tough on the boards, and Adam Harrison was tough on defense.
Hawks 37, Suns 23 â Matt Lindell pumped in 16, Virgil Procaccinni added 12 and Pat Rowley led with assists to power the Hawks past the Suns. Nick Norberg pulled down 10 rebounds and Sean Reilly led the defense for the Hawks. Tim Kelly and Thomas Floros led the Suns with a combined 19 points. Matt Janco and Greg Ladestro were very tough defensively.
5th Grade Boys Intermediate
Supersonic Pumpkins 26, Wildcats 23 â Stephen Grasso pumped in 11 points for the Supersonic Pumpkins, while Jon Sherman, Shane Qyuimby, and Christ Hartley led the team defensively. The Wildcatsâ Luke Rustici and Robby Schreiber each popped in 8 points. Forrest Speed had 4 steals and 2 blocked shots. Matt Hess and Baxter Hankin played well.
Supersonic Pumpkins 23, Bulldogs 20 â John Sherman popped in 14 points in the second game for the Supersonic Pumpkins. Ryan Sullivan and the team played well defensively. Will Dalton and Jason Ferrari both popped in 8 points each. Jared Tanabaum added 4 points in the effort. Max Rucinski with 5 steals and Jason Ferrari with 9 rebounds led the Bulldogs defensively.
Twisters 28, Knicks 26 â Jaret Develis and Bob Lydon combined 11 points. Twisters overcame a 10 point fourth quarter deficit. Andrew Pfifer, Andrew Cragin, Liam Decker, and Sawyer Conrad played well. Bryce Decker canned 16 points with 4 assists from Tom Shaker. Great plays defensively were four steals by Harry Dupuy and Aidan Peterscheck grabbed 6 rebounds off the boards.
The Rockets 20, Celtics 13 â Bob Archiere dropped in 8 points for the Rockets. Brennan OâSullivan grabbed 8 rebounds, 5 steals by Kaustav Mitra and 3 assists by Wiley Zahansky. Sean Kemsley and David Csordas led the Celtic defense to keep the high scoring Rockets out of orbit, while Eric Street and Will Swain led the Celtic âOâ!
Heat 24, Scorpions 8 â Ryan Szalay popped in 8 points, Danny Collucci with 4 assists. Strong team defensively. Connor LeMay grabbed 7 rebounds for Heat. Nick Cirone and Alec Clark each popped in 2 points for the Scorpions. Curtis Giles piled up a number of loose balls and Trevor Lopez was strong bringing down the back. Colton Moroney with 3 rebounds and David Corsi with 10 steals played well defensively for the Scorpions.
Celtics 35, Hawks 32 â Brendon Peterson dropped in 10 points for the Celtics. Ben Payne grabbed 7 rebounds. Good game by Don Sin and Jason Savard. Matt Lindell for the Hawks canned 11 points. Nick Norberg had 13 rebounds. Doug Miller, Steve Anderav, Alex Romeo, and Andrew Derickson played exceptional. Rickets had 13 points, Rafferty with 4 assists, Buzzanca with 10 steals and great defense from Scarangella for the Rebels.
5th & 6th Grades Intermediate Girls
Dragons 32, Ghostbusters 16 â Cassie Ekstrom and Amelia Muratori were high scorers for the Dragons, assisted by Liz Townshend, while Sarah Greenwood, Jenny Edwards, and Kate Fallon led the team defensively. Anna Northrup popped in 6 points for Ghostbusters. Defensive leaders included Abby Winters, Hayley Dunn, and Amanda Martinez.
Nighthawks 20, Bulldogs 8 â Valentina Pena popped in 10 points and Shaina Stamp had 5 assists. Rebecca Pearson and Kelsey Morshuk played well defensively. A great team effort. Four girls from the bulldogs pulled down 2 points each. Samantha Chanko and Jess Amante pulled up the defense.
Wolves 18, Court Jesters 12 â Siena Cicarelli dropped in 10 points. Strong offense from Lilly Fulmer and Jenna Hansen. Defense was led by Mary Beth Semosky and Julia Frattoroli grabbed 10 rebounds for the Wolves. Hanna Booth of the Court Jesters canned 6 points, with Mary Kate Holmes assist leader. Good defense was played by Rachel Maguire.
Bluefish vs Wolves â Both Emily Maher and Emily Davis popped in 6 points each with strong offense from Makala Nowacki for the Bluefish win. Aimee Alexander and Shana Lynn Evanko played well defensively. Siena Cicarelli of the Wolves popped in 14 points with strong offense from Taylor Zingaro. Emily Turco had 2 steals and the team played well defensively.
Junior Girls
Knicks 46, Liberty 32 â Kelley Gaston led the Knicks with 22 points and Nicole Rotante popped in 8 . Gechman and the whole team played a good defensive game. Colleen Cosgrove popped in 12 points and Julie LaPench drove in 8. Good rebounding by Cosgrove, good offense by LaPench, and tight defense by Courtney Escoda.
Mercury 27, Huskies 23 â Ashley Cirone popped in 8 points, Jane Sclafani with 3 assists. Catherine Lotrecciano and Kristen Graboski with 8 rebounds played well defensively for Mercury. Lexi Black dropped in 10 points. A great game defensively was played by Kristy Engler with 6 assists, Michaela Beaudry with 7 rebounds, and Jill Moller.
Suns 25, The Hawks 21 â Tressa Scott popped in 11 points and Faaria Ansari pulled in 6 points, while Stephane Perrotti grabbed 8 rebounds for Suns. Olivia Phenix and Keri Chernoff led the Hawks with 6 points apiece. Caitlyn Gibney played fierce defense.
Da Bears vs Rebels â Da Bears fought a hard game to win against the Rebels. Mahony of Da Bears popped in 10 points and Middelfer popped in 4. Good defense from Jossick with 5 steals and from Ellen Gordon with 7 rebounds. Rebelsâ Jessica Gibbons led with 10 points. Great defense from Sara Havelberger and Erica Kruesen.
Bantam Boys
Orangemen 20, Eagles 16 â Brian Kiley and Nick Samuelson powered the offense for the Orangemen, while Jake Oliger and Gabriel Barret led the defense. The Eagles were led offensively by Bobby Katrinak and Declan Sullivan, while Holden Turk and Nick Randle played a good game defensively.
Blue Devils 33, Black Knights 22 â The Blue Devils were led offensively by Peter Winnans and Devin Luzzetti, while defensively they were led by Mark Zavatski and Kieran Lynch. The Black Knights were led offensively by James Carney and Gordon Walsh, while defensively they were led by Dylan Solano and Spencer Johnson.
Nighthawks 17, Celtics 7 â The Nighthawks were led offensively by Mason Melillo and Tim LeBlanc, while defensively they were led by Charlie Fletcher and Ethan Burg. The Celtics were led offensively by Sam Czel and Steve Britton, while defensively they were led by Danny McCarthy and Alex Gerbo.
Big Red Machine 18, Lightening 11 âNick Rohrbacher and Maxime Donaher played a good game for the Big Red Machine, while defensively they were led by Tim VanderHave and Geoffrey Santore. Andrew Svanda and Colin Patrick lit up the field offensively for Lightening, while Jackson Cryder and Nick Genovese played aggressive defense.
Warriors 22, Huskies 14 â Michael Okeefe and Matt Gerics drove it in offensively for the Warriors, while defensively John DelRossi and Joe Duero played a good game. Connor Flint and Jamie Cochrane led the Huskies offensively. Great defense from Nate Augenbraun and Bryce Mather.
Girls Bantam
Tigers 21 vs Devils 17 â For the Devils, Casey Harkins led all scorers with 12 but the powerhouse Tigers stole the victory. Kelly Merrick had 4 rebounds, Maren Brady had 3 steals and Hannah Bellagamba made 3 assists. For the Tigers, Chloe Amante and Julia Wiberg combined for 8 points. Haley Ryan had 6 steals and Clire Broyle had 1 assist.
Eagles 21 vs Purple No Names 17 â For Eagles, Lauren Wilcox and Katie Reilly popped in a combined 8 points. Margaret Elkins and Chrissy Moore were strong on defense. For the No Names, Maddy Bridges and Katie Mossbarger led the team in points. Stephanie Carr and Courtney Demeglio were aggressive all day.
Wildcats 26 vs Hawks 26 â In a tough tie, the Wildcats were lead by CC DelRossi and Marissa Thill. Emma Horne and Amy Talbot had 3 assists each. The Hawks were led by Catie Linden and Michaela Jackman. Madison Pirone and Allison Silkowski held the opponent in check on defense.
Midget Boys
Red Devils vs Orange Flames â Charles Romano, Bradley Capeci, and James Hobar led the Red Devils offensively and Will LeMay, Colin Tod, and Adam Manes highlighted the defense. Orange Flamesâ Taylor Koonz, Liam Deakin, and Robert Hutchins drove it in offensively, while defensively Adam Wolff, Andrew Buzzi, and Nicholas Lombardo played a good game.
Fireballs vs Blue Devils â Playing a good game offensively were Ted Silverman, Austin Smith, and AJ Salaris, while Ryan Williams, Brian Kerins, and Bryan Morrissey led the defense for the Fireballs. Blue Devilsâ Brian Montoya, Matt Frazzetta, and Jacob Steinebrey led the offense, while Gavin Stubbs, Ryan Campbell, and Connery Mayer led the defense.
Goofy Goobers vs Purple People Eaters â Kyle Roche, Thomas Stanczyk, and Jacob Muller powered the offense for the Goofy Goobers, while Henry Primavera and Quinlan Hart played the defense aggressively. Purple People Eaters were led offensively by Adam Bergeron, Matt Gerbo, and Connor Barrett. Robert Murray, Jack Lavelle, and Matt Guinee highlighted the defense.
Yellow Sabers vs Panthers â William Gottschalck, Joey Cistulli, and David Kohler led the offense, while defensively David Grossman, Michael Wheeler, and Jon Dwyer Grimes played a good game for the Yellow Sabers. Justin Dunn, Austin DeSousa, and River Low of the Panthers lashed out offensively and Jason Taweh, RH Clark, and Drew Tienken anchored the defense.
Hawks vs White Knights â Scotty Bauer, Zach Demeglio, and Jack Dooley played a good game offensively, while Doug Carriero, Nikhil Trivedi, and Mitchell Long were a force for the Hawks. Aidan Ford, Andrew Janco, and Michael Liberante hooked up the offense, while Matt Principi, Austin Engler, and Ryan Escoda defended well.
Celtics vs Green Goo â Abir Singh, Nick Madej, and Justin Woodward lit up the offense, and Connor DiNallo, Jack Moulder, and Austin Kasbarian stepped it up defensively for the Celtics. Riley Burns and Dylan Cortese led Green Gooâs offense and great defensive plays by Thomas Coppinger and Shane Maksel.
Sharks vs Wildcats â Playing a good game offensively were Steven Moccio, Layton Harrell, and Tyler Trede. Tyler LaCroce, Marc Carlson, and Kyle Chernoff played well on the defensive side of the ball for the Sharks. Ricky Mariani, Christian Adam, and Greg Trimarchi hooked up the offense and Spencer Burden, Jake Holman, and Brooks Petershack got it done defensively for the Wildcats.
Lakers vs Green Torpedos â Joel Duval, Graham Dowd, and Oliver Wood took it in offensively while Devon Covert, Tiernan Keane, and Colin Villamana anchored the defense for the Lakers. Andrew Lee and Joe Accousti drove it in for the Green Torpedos. Jack Bittman and Matthew Clark played well defensively.
Midget Girls
Huskies vs Blue Devils â Madeline Cole and Clair Beiter played well offensively and Julia Doyle and Lindsey Tinlin led the Huskies defensively. Colleen McCarthy and Ashling Sugarman played well offensively, while Haley Harkins and Nike Zaccaro played well on the defensive side of the ball for the Blue Devils.
Tigers vs Red Devils â Olivia Holman and Emily Neave drove it in offensively for the Tigers and Julia Haskins and Kendra Dunnigan played well defensively. Olivia Shaw and Emily Dirga played well offensively and Stephanie Edwards and Abby Pearson played a good game defensively for the Red Devils.
Purple Parrots vs Wildcats â Simone Afigre and Sarah Houle led the Purple Parrots offensively and Tessa Leon-Gambetta and Amanda Solomon worked hard defensively. Karley Kreshpan and Megan Goyda played a great game offensively and Julia Bogdonoff and Kandyn Moroney led the Wildcats defensively.
Orange Crush vs Bumble Bees â Catherine Shaw and Jackie Govavia drove it in offensively for the Orange Crush and McKenzie Iazetta and Danielle Powell worked well for the defense. Playing a good game offensively were Meghan Doyle and Rachel D Arsillo, while Jordan Williams and Serene Aryeh played well defensively.
