William A. Resko

William A. Resko, 88, of Ashlar Village, Wallingford, formerly of Bridgeport and Westport, died January 15 at the Masonic Geriatric Healthcare Center in Wallingford. He was the husband of Susan (Reynolds) Resko.

He was the father of Patricia R. Marshall of Newtown.

Born in Bridgeport, November 15, 1911, he was a son of the late Alexander and Mary (Simon) Resko and was a resident of Bridgeport for several years. He was a resident of Westport for over 45 years until moving to Wallingford eight years ago. Mr Resko attended Brown University where he received his bachelor of arts and master of arts degrees in education. In 1934 he became the director of a Federal Emergency Adult Education Project in Bridgeport through the YMCA and was very active in the YMCA for many years. From 1939 to 1942 he was a social worker with the State of Connecticut Division of Child Welfare and worked in the Bridgeport and Norwich offices. In 1942 he joined the staff of the State Juvenile Court as a probation officer and retired in 1968 as a director of the probation staff of Fairfield County. Mr Resko then taught in the Fairfield school system for 13 years and taught and developed a course in public welfare at Sacred Heart University. He also taught a course in sociology at Bridgeport University until his retirement in 1981.

Besides his wife and daughter, he is survived by  a son, William Reynolds Resko of Sun Valley, Idaho; four grandchildren; two great-grandsons; two sisters, Margaret Elander of Fairfield and Blanche Meyers of Elizabethtown, Penn.; a brother, Al Resko of Mifflintown, Penn.; and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a son, Henry Simon Resko; a sister, Lily Snyder; and two brothers, Victor Resko and Gabriel Resko.

A memorial service celebrating Mr Resko’s life will be held Friday, January 21 at 11 am at the Greens Farms Congregational Church, 71 Hillandale Road, Westport. Interment in Willowbrook Cemetery in Westport will be private. There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main Street, Yalesville section of Wallingford.
