Fire Calls Increased In â99
The Newtown Hook and Ladder Volunteer Fire Company reports that it responded to 635 calls during 1999, reflecting an almost 12 percent increase over the 568 calls to which it responded in 1998.
The increased number of fire calls did not come from a great increase in any type of call or from any particular location, but reflected increases across the board, said Fire Chief Dave Ober.
About 380 of the 635 calls originated in the Newtown Hook and Ladder Fire District, the chief said. Other calls involved responses to incidents in the townâs four other fire districts.
In 1997, Hook and Ladder went on 475 calls. It responded to 489 calls in 1996, and 446 calls in 1995.
