DANBURY 54, NEWTOWN 48: Newtown took a late lead, but couldnât hold onto it against a strong Danbury team. Ryan McGrath scored 15 points and Joey DeVellis added 10 in the effort while Michael Klein chipped in with seven points. Michael Kennedy helped control the action off the boards.
NEWTOWN 42, NEW FAIRFIELD 20: Aron Fay scored 11 points and Jack Quinn added seven as Newtown exploded for a win over New Fairfield. Joey Bowen, Cody Shpunt and Tucker Kass each chipped in with four points. Michael Tibbetts, Kass and Bowen were strong off the glass.

NEWTOWN 58, NEW FAIRFIELD 41: Josh Tenenbaum scored a game-high 13 points and Tommy Wilson added 11 to lead Newtown over New Fairfield. Drew Harmata also scored in double figures with 10. Drew Adamek dished out seven assists. Brian Shimko and Alex Caruso paced the defense.
DANBURY 34, NEWTOWN 31: Marc Ingerman and Drew Adamek scored eight points apiece and Stephen Neylon added six, but Newtown fell short against Danbury. Jack Capito, Alex Caruso and Chris Giorno led a tough defensive effort. Danbury opened with a 14-2 lead, but Newtownâs defense keyed a a comeback that had Newtown cradling a 28-27 fourth-quarter lead.
BOYS 8th GRADE

NEW CANAAN 48, NEWTOWN 40: Newtown never got its offense going and fell to New Canaan. Dave Anderson led the scoring with eight points and also added eight rebounds. Ben Bagaglio had seven points while Andrew Fiscella grabbed seven rebounds. Devon Manfredonia had three steals.
NEWTOWN 61, NEW MILFORD 51: Ronnie Shimko hit four three-point field goals in the second half to lift Newtown to the win. Shimko finished with 18 points while Dave Anderson tossed in 13 points with five steals. Brian Smith chipped in with nine points. Troy Simek had five steals as John Oliver, Ben Bagaglio and Ross Coates combined for 20 rebounds.
NEWTOWN 54, WILTON 29: Dave Anderson had a solid all-around game, scoring 14 points with six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Ross Coates, John Oliver and Troy Simek scored seven points apiece while Oliver pulled down nine rebounds. Brian Smith dished off three assists.
GIRLS 8th GRADE

In the recent Cheshire Holiday Tournament, Newtown came away with a 1-2 mark. Its only win was over Danbury (54-43) while it suffered losses to Wallingfdord (55-36) and Ludlow (64-33). Julie Iwanicki was high scorer for Newtown, with a total of 37 points in the three games. In other action:
NEWTOWN 54, RIDGEFIELD 49: With three players scoring in double digits, Newtown overpowered arch rival Ridgefield. In the fourth quarter, Julie Iwanicki and Trina Ramsdell dished off some key assists and Kelley Haines forced successive turnovers to seal the win. Kaitlyn Murphy played solid defense. Haines pumped in 19 points, including a pair of three-pointers, while Iwanicki had 12 points and Ramsdell finished with 10.
NEWTOWN 56, SOUTHINGTON 14: With the fast break, Newtown ran Southington down. Stephanie Logan and Tori Filler crashed the boards for a combined 20 rebounds with Logan coming up with four blocks and Carrie Frawley making off with three steals. Kelley Haines scored 14 points and Trina Ramsdell added 13, her personal high. Iwanicki chipped in with 11.
NEWTOWN 56, NEW CANAAN 18: Newtown ran out to a 23-3 lead at the end of one period and never looked back. Tori Filler attacked the boards on both ends of the floor while Erin Murdoch and Elissa Ballard were tenacious on defense, forcing turnovers that were quickly converted into baskets. Kelley Haines sparked the offense with 16 points, while Logan turned in a personal high of 11 points.
