Rescheduled Deep Brook Preserve Hike Saturday
A special event rescheduled from late December at Deep Brook Farm will be taking place this weekend.
Readers are invited to join Newtown Forest Association (NFA) members to visit the Deep Brook Farm property, 32 Deep Brook Road, on Saturday, January 18, for Trail Scouting Day.
NFA purchased the historic property last year. A fundraising campaign resulted in more than 400 donors assisting the association in its acquisition.
The Deep Brook Farm Preserve will protect 60+ acres of farmland and upland forest, meadows, and wetlands in perpetuity with public access to hiking trails and other passive recreation. The property is surrounded on two sides by bucolic dirt roads and is less than a mile away from the flagpole.
In addition to the preservation of the land itself, NFA has taken ownership of the stone barns on the property, the foundations of which date back to the mid 1700s.
Attendees will walk in the lower and upper fields to explore the property and plan for future stewardship of NFA’s newest preserve. The event will offer the opportunity to experience the beautiful place and provide NFA with feedback.
Light refreshments will be served.
The program will begin at 10 am and registration is requested. Contact NFA Executive Director Trent McCann at trent.mccann@newtownforestassociation.org to register or for additional information.
