‘Water Gardening Fun’ With The Garden Club Of Newtown, January 22
The Garden Club of Newtown will present a program called “Water Gardening Fun” by Jim Hosking at 1 pm, Tuesday, January 22, in the meeting room of C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street.
Mr Hosking is the owner of Hosking Nursery in Watertown and will speak about how to create a water feature in the residential garden and which plants are the best to use.
A fourth generation owner of the nursery, Mr Hosking began his career in landscaping as a child, pulling weeds and watering for the family business. In high school, he spent his summers on the landscaping crew. Upon graduating from UMass Amherst with a degree in environmental design, Mr Hosking became manager of the nursery’s landscaping division, where he used his skills in landscape design.
In 1992, he created the water garden division of Hosking Nursery, helping to bring awareness and interest to water gardening at a time when it was virtually nonexistent in Connecticut. The nursery began selling all the supplies needed to construct a water garden, including water plants, stone, and fish, as well as onsite water garden consultation, design, and installation.
After his father’s retirement in the mid-80s, Mr Hosking assumed ownership and management of the business. His nursery has the largest selection of aquatic plants in Connecticut. Now in its 128th year, Hosking Nursery serves all of central and western Connecticut, offering installation, maintenance, and repair of water gardens as well as general landscaping and hardscaping.
The Garden Club of Newtown invites all to hear Mr Hosking’s presentation and learn about the importance of water features in their own gardens. There is no charge to attend.
