The Newtown Bridle Lands Association and the Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard will hold an old-fashioned drawn sleigh rally on Sunday, January 23, from 11 am to 2 pm, at the Horse Guard’s facility on the grounds of Fairfield Hills.

Spectators are invited to attend the free event, which brings those Currier and Ives protraits to life. A parade of sleighs will begin at 11 am.

Competitors will participate in a point-to-point drive on a cross-country course which includes marked roads, fields and trails. The drive will not be timed. Participants will also be able to compete in the obstacle course challenge, which will be marked with traffic cones and other objects to test the driver’s skill and the horse’s composure.

Special awards will be given for the best turn-out, most bells, oldest sleigh, biggest horse, smallest horse, and the wooliest horse or pony.

Hot lunch and refreshments will be available for purchase.
