SOUTHBURY â Cellist Rebecca Patterson and pianist Cristina Valdes will present a musical program that will include works of Bach, de Falla and Chopin on Wednesday, January 26, at East Hill Woods.
Ms Valdes began playing the piano at the age of three, and at age 16 she entered the New England Conservatory of Music to study with Stephen Drury. She is continuing her studies at SUNY/Stony Brook with Gilbert Kalish, where she has already earned her masterâs degree and is currently working on her doctorate.
Rebecca Patterson received her bachelorâs degree from Eastman School of Music and her masterâs from Yale School of Music. While at Eastman she was the winner of the Gibbs Chamber Orchestra Concerto competition as well as the recipient of a full merit Lois Smith Rogers Scholarship.
Ms Patterson and Ms Valdes are both members of the national and internationally award-winning ensemble Elm City Ensemble. The group consists of violin, cello, piano and clarinet players, and recently won the silver medal at the Third International Chamber Music Competition in Osaka, Japan.
Since its initial success, the ensemble has dedicated itself to the exposure and promotion of both contemporary and unusual works. The group maintains a versatile repertoire, featuring works from the 18th, 19th and 20th Centuries.
