On The Courts — Boys’ And Girls’ Youth Basketball Highlights

Girls

Midgets

Chili Peppers vs Yellow Jackets: For the Peppers, Riley Mulligan and Jenna Carvahlo led the offense while Teresa Folenzo and Jenna Lavelle were strong on defense. For the Yellow Jackets, Jacklin Gouveia and Julia Haskins led the offense and Carolina Stubbs and Allie Tassiello were strong on defense

Purple People Eaters vs Blue Storm: For Purple People Eaters, Tess and Lexi Leidlin were strong on offense while Lucy Scarangella and Camryn Findley were aggressive on defense. For the Storm. Caitlin Child and Erin Burns led the offense and Ashley Solomon and Elizabeth Weisgerber were aggressive on defense

Lightning vs Dynamites: For the Lightning, Abby Pearson and Kristen Cirone were the offensive leaders and Julia Baskah and Lucy Draper were strong on defense. For the Dynamites, Jordan Williams and Catherine Shaw led the offense while Sarah Brittin and Emily Hartman were strong on defense.

Cheese Doodles vs Junior Mints: For the Doodles, Sienna Cummings and Caroline Viselli led the offense while Sonya Ahmaripour and Mia Villanueva were aggressive on defense. For the Mints, Carli Carpenter and Nicki Dipri led the offense while Vanessa Tucker and Danny Otero were strong on defense.

Boys

Midgets

In recent action, the Green Sharks were led by offensive stars Ryan Mailloux, Ben Terry and Miles Martiska. Defensive standouts were Shea Talbot, Jack Buchler and Cameron MacDonald.

Grade 5 Travel

Newtown  46, Westport Westport 35: Devin Luzietti, Matt Gerics and Michael Doyle had multiple steals while Matt Maturo, Jared Pearson and Ethan Carpenter were the rebound leaders. The point guards Josh Houle and Matt Elias led in assists to help lead their team to victory. Ethan Carpenter sparked the offensive attack with the assistance of Matt Maturo and Devin Luzietti.

Bantam

Gladiators 19, Green Rockets 19: Austin Engler threw in  points for the Gladiators while Jack Palermo chipped in with 6 boards and Matt Bucci had 5 steals. The Green Rockets were led by Alex Dunleavy with 6 points and Michael Liberante with 5 points. Nicholas Lansing was everywhere on defense with 7 steals and Connery Mayer cleaned the boards with 6 rebounds.

Huskies  26, Orange Fire 16: The Huskies were led by the Jordan Klein with 8 points and Brian Kerins with 6 points. Timothy Cervera  led the way on defense with 5 steals. Owen McInerney had 6 rebounds for the Huskies. The Orange Fire was led by Colby Olsen with 8 points. Matt Guinee was terrific on defense with 3 steals and Phillip Coffee had 5 rebounds.

Wizards 16, Flaming Monkeys 9: River Low had 6 points for the Wizards, Thomas Cotton chipped in with 4 points, Zach Anderson had 3 assists and RH Clark had 7 boards. Graham Dowd led The Flaming Monkeys with 5 points. Andrew Janco had 3 assists, Patrick Flynn was a standout on defense and Colin Villamana had 5 rebounds.

Hounds 13, Men In Black 13: The Hounds were led by the offense of Noah Laferriere and Jacob Steinebrey. Ryan Brello excelled on defense and Will Corbett led in rebounding. Will Whitlock led the way on offense for the Men in Black. Joey Accousti was a terror on defense and Dylan Kretz led in rebounding.

Grade 6 In House

Junkyard Dogs 27, Gators 19: For the Dogs, Charlie Huegi had 6 points and Kyle McGrath hit the go-ahead basket in this come-from-behind victory. Nick “Eagle” Rubino and Trevor Palmer played relentless defense against the much bigger Gator front court. Bryce Decker led the Gators with 6 points, while Jason Ferrari chipped in 4 points. Bryce Decker and Robbie McCabe combined for 20 rebounds. Brian Raab played excellent game on defense and scored 4 points. Mitchell Godin and Dan Hamula played well on defense too.

Dunkeys 37, Nets 29: Stephen Grasso had 13. and Mason Galanis added 8. Alex Daignault and Chris Horkachuck crashed the boards and were instrumental in a strong defensive effort by the Dunkeys. Keaton McCleary and Nate Dowd combined for 10 points and 5 assists, and David Corsi hauled in 6 rebounds for the Nets. Curtis Giles was tough on defense with 3 steals.

Screaming Eagles 45, Semi Pros 19: Ryan Sullivan and Christian “The Prez” Hoffman got the Screaming Eagles off to a strong start. Connor LeMay was a beast on the boards and Kyle Mangold, playing point guard for the first time, ran the team smoothly throughout the last quarter. Nine of the 10 Eagles scored, including Bobby Silver, Shane Quimby and Jaret DeVellis who hit nice jump shots. Conrad Morris, Mark Dowling and Tommy Shaker combined for 14 points and Jared Tannenbaum chipped in with 3 assists to lead the Semi Pros’ offensive attack. Eric Gibbons and Jimmy Widmann teamed to lead the defense with 10 rebounds and 6 steals.

Heat 42, Dunkeys 27: The Heat blazed behind a balanced scoring attack in which nine different  players put the ball in the basket. Erik Street, Brad Kretz and Matt Bouton had strong inside games while the aggressive play by the combination of Heat guards created numerous steals and fast break opportunities. Carl Whippie controlled the boards for the Dunkeys. Danny Romeo played strong defense.  Connor Miller played with maximum effort on both ends of the court.

Nets 31, Gators 22: Andrew King crashed the boards for the Nets, hauling in a team-high 11 rebounds. Bobby Archiere tossed in 10 points and Ryan Szalay added 6 more, while Aiden Petershack spearheaded the defense. Bryce Decker led the Gators by scoring 8. Brian Raab and Jason Ferrari each scored 4. Rebound leader Bryce Decker and Alec Clark combined for 12 rebounds. Gustavo Porto played very well on defense and Adam Israel had a great offensive effort.

Junkyard Dogs  18, Wolves  26: For the Dogs, Nick Lotrecchiano led the offense with 10 points, most of which were set up by assists from Joey Santella, and spearheaded a solid defensive effort. Santella led the team in assists and scored 8 points of his own. Baxter Hankin continued his clutch shooting by hitting a difficult jump shot in the 4th quarter just as the Wolves began to mount a comeback. Kevin Ovendorf scored 8 points and Zachary Weiland added 4 to lead The Wolves’ offense. Eric Cascone grabbed 10 rebounds and Jeremy Felin anchored the defense, collecting 4 steals.

Juniors

Warriors 56, Grizzlies 43: For the Warriors,  Eric Fiore led the scoring with 28 points. PJ Hickey had 4 steals and Brian Arnold had 8 rebounds. Otto Kerler, Eric Pisani and Brandon Cooper all played strong all-around games. For the Grizzlies, Stephan Dillanger and JP Kittmiller led the scoring with 8 points each. Garrison Buzzanca had 4 assists, Ty Runkel had 3 steals, Max Lopez had 6 rebounds and   Matt Janco contributed 6 points.

Knicks 36, Nets 25: For the Knicks, Patrick Riccardi led the scoring with 18 points and Shay DeMarche had 8 points. Robbie Hughes led the way in assists and Grant Larnerd was the defensive star. For the Nets,  Angel Santos led the scoring with 8 points and 14 rebounds. Richard Greenwood had 6 assists and Justin Adsit-Weiner added 8 points. Marcelino Hernandez and Joe Calbo played good defense.

Trash Talkers 40, Celtics 35: For the Trashtalkers, Max Hayes had 8 assists, Ryan Palmer was the defensive star and Brandon Marks had 8 rebounds. The defense, led by Matt Rosa and Ryan Palmer, was key to victory.

For the Celtics, Christian Barrett was the high-scorer with 10 points and Cameron McCleary had 6 points. Danny Cummings was the defensive star and Collin Hull was the rebound leader.
