Larry R. Orten

Longtime Town Highway Department Employee

Larry R. “Rick” Orten, 61, of Sandy Hook, beloved husband of Mary (Goncalves) Orten, died January 12 in Danbury Hospital. Mr Orten was born in Johnson City, Tenn., on March 4, 1947, a son of Blaine and Helen M. (Stover) Orten.

A US Army Vietnam War veteran, he was a resident of Newtown for more than 40 years, and was a member of VFW Post #308 of Newtown. Mr Orten was a longtime employee of the Town of Newtown Highway Department.

In addition to his wife, Mr Orten is survived by two sons, Wesley Cox of Oakville and Joseph Cox of Kingfield, Mass.; two daughters, Dora Cox of Sandy Hook and Deanna Dwyer of Bridgeport; a brother, Kyle Orten of Asheville, N.C.; 11 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 17, at 11 am, in Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street in Newtown. Cremation will be private. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, January 16, from 6 to 9 pm.
