Hockey Squirts Reach Tourney Championship Game

The Western Connecticut Youth Hockey Association Squirt B team placed second at the Norwestern Hockey League John Geary Memorial Winter Hockey Tournament in New Milford, recently.

Team members who live in Newtown are Riley Burns, Domenic Cartelli, Sam Cox, Ben Harrison, Alec O’Brien, Nate Sanchez, and Head Coach Mike Sanchez. 

In game one of the tournament, Cartelli scored a goal and Cox had an assist in a 2-0 win against Northwestern Hockey. In game two, Burns had an assist in a 4-0 win against Kent Youth Hockey. In the third game, O’Brien started the scoring with an unassisted goal in the first period, Cox followed with a goal and an assist in the second period, and put one more in the net in the third to seal a 5-4 victory over Pawling Squirt A.  In the championship game (also against Pawling Squirt A), Cox scored a goal and an assist in a hard-fought 6-3 loss.
