United Way Seeks Award Nominations
DANBURY ââ The United Way of Northern Fairfield County is seeking nominations for the service awards that will be given at the annual awards dinner on March 25.
The awards are the Peter T. White Volunteer Service Award and the Forrest C. Palmer Community Service Award. Nominations should be emailed to Alice Pepin at alice.pepin@ctunitedway.org or faxed to Jennifer Toussaint at 790-5182. Forms also are available by calling 792-5330, ext 23.
The Peter T. White Volunteer Service Award honors those who have dedicated their lives to community service and have exhibited leadership in the United Way and the community.
Peter T. White, a United Way volunteer for more than ten years, served on the Allocations Committee, Speakerâs Bureau, Campaign Cabinet, and the Board of Trustees. Through his service as chief volunteer officer, he provided leadership during a period of organization growth and change.
Past winners of this award include Eleanor Kohn, Fred Malmsheimer, Karl Epple, Forrest Palmer, Robert Buch, Joyce Ligi, Albert Kohn, Alice Hyman, George Good, Digby Barrios, Wayne Shepperd, Donna Ramey, Carl Bailey, Nancy Dolan, Heidi Winslow, and John Martocci.
The Forrest C. Palmer Community Service Award is typically given to individuals who are the âunsung heroes,â working behind the scenes and are often unrecognized for their efforts.
Forrest C. Palmer retired as publisher of The News-Times in 1990 and a community service award was created to recognize him and his outstanding service to the community. This annual award is bestowed upon a volunteer who has unselfishly contributed to United Way and made a difference in the local region.
