Emily Elizabeth Rohleder
Emily Elizabeth Rohleder, 90, of Grace Meadows, Southbury, died January 11 at her home. She was the wife of the late Stuart C. Rohleder.
Mrs Rohleder was born in Danbury, September 17, 1913, a daughter of the late John A. and Susan O. (Beers) Carlson. She grew up on Main Street, Newtown, and was a graduate of Newtown High School. Mrs Rohleder had a long career as a telephone operator for SNET that began when there was a switchboard office on Newtownâs Main Street. She then worked for SNET in Danbury and finally in Bridgeport.
Mrs Rohleder was one of the first residents of Grace Meadows when it opened in 1985 and previously lived in Newtown, Bridgeport, and Florida. She was a former member and substitute organist of Trinity Episcopal Church, Newtown, and a member of the order of the Eastern Star.
She was a caring, loving person who will be greatly missed by those whose lives she touched.
Survivors include a son, John S. Rohleder and his wife Lucretia of Trumbull; two daughters, Susan Dayton and her husband James R. of Taylorsville, N.C., and Martha Rohleder of Southbury; a sister, Sarah Casey of Southbury; four grandchildren, James Dayton, Wendy Dayton, Jesse Rohleder, and Heidi Hill; four great-grandchildren, Brook and Cooper Hinman, Jesse Rohleder, Jr, and Emily Dayton.
Funeral services were held January 15 in Trinity Episcopal Church, 36 Main Street, Newtown.
Interment will be in Newtown Village Cemetery in the spring.
