Thomas J. Hayes, 85, a longtime resident of Newtown, died peacefully January 13. He was born in Bridgeport, February 24, 1930.

Mr Hayes retired from SNET after 30 years. He was a member of the Newtown Fish & Game Club, and was an avid hunter, fisherman, and camper. As a young man he enjoyed riding in the rodeo.

He was the beloved husband of Kate (Taylor) Hayes; and father of Catherine, Helen, Joanne, Paula, Eliza, and Daniel. Mr Hayes was grandfather to George, Mike, Crystal, Sandra, Jesse Ross, Miles, Jacob and Tyler, and also leaves behind six great-grandchildren, and two in the oven.

Friends may call from 11 am to 1 pm, Sunday, January 17, at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown. Funeral services will follow. Interment will be in Southford Cemetery, Oxford. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to St Jude Children's Hospital, at www.stjude.org.
