Probation Charges

Police report that at about 1:45 pm on January 7, they went to the 47 Turkey Hill Terrace residence of Greg Goodkowsky, 22, and charged him on arrest warrants, lodging two separate counts of violation of probation.

One warrant stems from a conviction that originated with a 2008 larceny incident, and the other warrant was obtained against Goodkowsky by state police from Troop H in Hartford in connection with an unspecified matter, according to Newtown police.

Police held Goodkowsky on $20,000 bail for a January 8 arraignment on the two probation charges at Danbury Superior Court.

Items Stolen

Police are investigating an incident in which someone stole unspecified items from a motor vehicle that was parked near Vining Road sometime between midnight and 1 am on December 20. The crime is sixth-degree larceny, representing the theft of items worth less than $250. Police ask anyone with information on the crime to contact Officer Todd Dingee at 203-426-5841.

Three Vehicles

Motorist Vincent Osowski, 62, of Danbury was driving a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta sedan northward near 45 Main Street about 1:30 pm December 30, when he made a right turn, colliding with a parked 2004 Volvo XC-90 station wagon, police report.

That impact pushed the Volvo into a parked 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe SUV, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Osowski an infraction for making a restricted turn.

SUV Vs Sedan

About 2 pm January 1, motorist Dasondh Gakhal, 66, of Stratford, who was driving a 2004 Honda Accord sedan eastward near 67 Church Hill Road, slowed for traffic conditions and was struck from behind by eastbound motorist Donald W. Callendar III, 30, of East Orange, N.J., who was driving a 2003 Ford Escape SUV, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police gave Callendar an infraction ticket on charges of failure to drive a reasonable distance apart and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Nissan Vs Snowbank

Motorist Christopher Jendrick, 20, of Bethel was driving a 2005 Nissan Sentra sedan westward near 36 Old Bethel Road about 8:30 pm January 3, when the vehicle skidded on some snow and struck a snowbank along the road’s right shoulder, police report. The impact caused the vehicle’s bumper to crack.

Jendrick was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Dodgingtown Road

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the traffic signal on Dodgingtown Road in Dodgingtown Center about 8 am January 6.

Southbound motorist Joseph Brenner, 30, of Danbury, who was driving a 2003 BMW 325-XI sedan, stopped for the traffic signal, after which southbound motorist Suely DeSouza, 35, of Danbury, who was driving a 2004 Alfa-Romeo Lanos, struck the rear end of the BMW, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said DeSouza received an infraction ticket on charges of failure to drive a reasonable distance apart and driving without a license.

SUV Hits Rock

Motorist Lauren Baluzy, 22, of Brookfield was driving a 2003 Nissan Pathfinder SUV northward on a snow-covered Currituck Road, near Brennan Road, about 3:10 pm January 3, when she lost control of the vehicle and it went into a skid, police report.

The SUV went across the southbound lane, exited the left road shoulder and collided with a boulder, police said.

Baluzy was not injured. She drove the damaged vehicle to a safe location at the nearby Hedge Meadow Lane and then notified police of the mishap. Police issued Baluzy a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Evading Responsibility

About 6 pm on December 29, an unknown motorist struck a fence at 27 Chestnut Hill Road and then left the scene of the collision, police report.

After the crash, the unknown driver picked up the broken bumper of the small gold-colored vehicle that had hit the fence and then drove away from the scene, heading northward on Chestnut Hill Road, police said.

Police unsuccessfully searched for the offending driver, but that motorist could not be found. Police ask anyone with knowledge of who drove into the fence to contact Officer Adam Greco at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Honda Vs Subaru

On January 5, motorist Sophfronia Gregory, 43, of 29 Fawnwood Road, who was driving a 2001 Subaru Legacy station wagon southward on Berkshire Road, stopped in preparing to make a left turn onto Lone Oak Meadows Road, police said.

Southbound motorist John Doherty, 78, of Monroe, who was driving a 2000 Honda Civic coupe, then struck the rear end of the Subaru, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Doherty an infraction for following too closely.

iPod Found

On or about December 25, a small gray Apple-brand iPod digital media player was found outside the Newtown Youth Academy sports complex at 4 Primrose Street at Fairfield Hills. The owner may contact police at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841, to claim the device.

Commerce Road

Police report a two-vehicle collision in a parking lot at 9 Commerce Road on the afternoon of January 4.

Involved in that accident were motorist Farland Fansher, 91, of Kale Davis Road, who was driving a 1998 Buick sedan, and motorist Saroj Vohra, 62, of New Fairfield, who was driving a 2004 Toyota truck, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Fansher a written warning for a vehicular backing violation.

Queen Street

A two-vehicle accident occurred in a commercial parking lot at 6 Queen Street about 3 pm on January 8, police said.

The collision involved motorist Sheri Basso, 41, of Summit Road, who was driving a 2003 Volkswagen coupe, and motorist Jeffrey McKee, 19, of Lake Road, who was driving a 2008 Nissan station wagon, police said. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Stop Sign Violation

About 11:20 am on January 8, motorist Ilea Dell, 17, of 2 Shepaug Road, who was driving a 1979 Chevrolet sedan, was traveling westward on Shepaug Road, police said.

At that time, motorist John Snabaitis, 44, of Woodbury was driving a commercial 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier northward on Walnut Tree Hill Road, police said.

Dell did not stop at a stop sign at Shepaug Road’s intersection with Walnut Tree Hill Road and entered the intersection of the two streets, colliding with the vehicle driven by Snabaitis, police said

There were no injuries. Dell received an infraction for a stop sign violation, police said.

Taunton Crash

A two-vehicle collision occurred on Taunton Hill Road, near Taunton Lane, about 1:46 pm January 9.

Motorist Djerry Comberland, 36, of Bridgeport was driving a commercial 2005 Ford F-250 pickup truck eastward on Taunton Hill Road and then slowed the vehicle, police said.

Eastbound motorist Cassandra Pearce, 19, of Woodbury, who was driving a 2000 Honda Civic sedan behind the Ford, then attempted to stop, but the Honda drove into the rear end of the Ford, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Pearce an infraction for following too closely.

 

Church Hill Road

About 11:47 am on January 6, motorist Joseph Demers, 44, of 43 Bear Hills Road was driving a 2000 Ford Econoline van westward near 29 Church Hill Road, police said.

At that time, motorist Craig Doersch, 33, of 9 King Philip Trail was driving a 1997 Honda Civic eastward there, police said.

The Ford then made a left turn in front of the approaching Honda, resulting in a collision, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police said they gave Demers a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Saturn Vs Acura

Police report a two-car accident at the intersection of Swamp Road and Botsford Hill Road about 7 am January 11.

Motorist Allen Hankerson, 21, of Stratford, who was driving a 2004 Acura TL sedan northward on Swamp Road, stopped at a stop sign at Swamp Road’s intersection with Botsford Hill Road, after which the Acura was hit from behind by a 2004 Saturn Ion driven by Peter Rutkowski, 61, of Woodbury, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Rutkowski a written warning for traveling an unreasonable distance apart.

SUV Damaged

Police report that sometime between 6:45 and 9 am on January 11, some unknown motorist struck and damaged the rear bumper of a white Toyota RAV-4 SUV that was parked in the rear parking lot at Head O’ Meadow School, near the area where parents drop off their children at the 94 Boggs Hill Road facility.

 Police ask anyone with information on the incident to contact investigating Officer Maryhelen McCarthy at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Ramp Collision

About 6:50 pm on January 12, motorist Ibia Vetrano, 39, of Danbury, who was driving a 2008 Acura sedan, stopped at a red traffic signal at the end of the Exit 11 off-ramp for Interstate 84, police said.

Motorist Brian Engelke, 28, of Grays Plain Road, who was driving a 2005 Dodge pickup truck, then stopped behind the Acura, police said.

The Dodge then moved forward, striking the rear end of the Acura, police said. There were no injuries.

Police said they issued Engelke a misdemeanor summons on charges of failure to drive a reasonable distance apart and failure to have automotive insurance.
