Middle Gate’s RRD Club Collecting Socks And Mittens

By Eliza Hallabeck

Middle Gate’s RRD Club, also called the Green Team, started collecting socks and mittens at the start of December, and will continue its collection through the end of January.

The collection is open to all Middle Gate students and their families.

Green Team overseer Annette Wieczorek said by the start of January club members and their fellow students had donated many items to the collection already.

RRD — which stands for Respect, Responsibility, and Celebration of Diversity — Club members met on January 7 for a regular meeting, and had two more bags for the collection that day.

Projects like the Sock & Mitten Drive help promote recycling, according to club member Allie Eurell, who said some people at Middle Gate do not recycle. She said the club is working to teach people to recycle.

“A lot of kids outgrow their socks and mittens, and things like that,” said club member Harrison Hoffert. “A lot of people do not pay attention to that, but those can be used for other people.”

Member Silas Decker said the collection, which will be donated to Bridgeport and Danbury shelters, is something that helps others.

“I think it is important,” said Silas, “because the people who do not have enough money can stay warm.”

At the end of January the collection will be brought, by Ms Wieczorek, to be donated.
