On Assault Charge
State police report an incident at the stateâs high-security Garner Correctional Institution at 50 Nunnawauk Road at about 9 am on January 9 that resulted in the arrest of an inmate.
State police said that as a correction officer was attempting to move inmate Robert J. Thompson, 31, of New Haven out of his prison cell, Thompson threw an âunknown liquidâ onto the chest of the correction officer. The correction officer was not injured in the incident, state police said.
State police charged Thompson with assault on a correction officer. Thompson was arraigned on the charge, which is a felony, on January 11 in Danbury Superior Court.
Thompson is being held in Garner on $395,000 bail on a pending criminal charge of robbery by carjacking, among various other serious criminal charges. Thompson was admitted to the state prison system last June 15.
